🏈 I was sick of hearing about it 30 seconds after it happened...

Was it an interception? Looked like it to me. Problem is, it wasn't ruled that way initially and there wasn't enough evidence to overturn it (or maybe Matt Caddell was in the replay booth)... though truth be told, in this league the replay official might as well be replaced with a coin flip. The fact remains however, even had it been ruled an INT, it only gave LSU an opportunity to set up for a 70 yard drive... nothing more... and they were not getting too much accomplished in the 2nd half on offense.

I guess it will be Vol Victory Part Deux though... only this time its worse. This time we dominated their asses and took over the game, but the media (I don't even care about the opposing fans), is going to harp on a call that wouldn't have made a difference in anything other than Greg McElroy's QB rating for the game. I mean hell, it's not like it would have caused a 14 point swing or anything...

[would have liked to have inserted the infamous 2004 phantom no call video of Corey Webster and Keith Brown here, but alas, all those goodies have been pulled form YouTube]

Don't let the haters get you down man. Bama controls its own destiny for the SECC and NC. You can't ask for anything more than that this late into the season. If Greg McElroy could hit wide open receivers, Bama blows that team out.

Supervisor says there was 'no excuse'

<!-- end mod-article-title --> <!-- begin story body --> BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference's supervisor of officials said an LSU player should have been called for pass interference in a pivotal interception against Alabama.
Side judge Blake Parks didn't call a penalty when Corey Webster picked off a pass in the end zone after pushing down receiver Keith Brown early in the third quarter.
"Let's just report it as I'd rather it have been called," said Bobby Gaston, who oversees SEC officials.
With the Tide leading 10-6, Webster returned the interception to the LSU 44. Alabama wound up losing 26-10.
Gaston said that Parks' vision was obscured by Brown and he couldn't change position because he was responsible for goal line coverage.
"If you look at it, he's straight-lined and has a hard time seeing the push and he can't call something that he doesn't see," Gaston said. "With the mechanics (positioning) that we use, we should have gotten that play.
"It just so happens that the receiver and the defender were straightlined down the goal line from where he was. That's no excuse for us not being able to see it."
Referee Penn Wagers led the officiating crew in the Alabama-LSU game and also the crew that erred in handling the clock late in the Tennessee-Florida game, a mistake that allowed the Volunteers more time to drive for a game-winning field goal. But Parks was not part of that crew.
Gaston said he had not received a tape of the play from Alabama, but planned to call Shula and apologize for the mistake.

They can pull the video, but they can't stop the press releases.

Kudos to Big_Fan for digging that up last night.

Oh man, I'm not down... I don't get down over football games. I get irritated at the national writers and such... I'm all about being happy with UA's position right now. I'm downright thrilled... I just wish the team and the players... Tiffin, Dareus, Ingram, Cody, McClain, Maze, etc... were getting more accolades for their performances in these games from the media, instead of them trying to use their soap boxes to stir up a faux conspiracy.

I've got very little tolerance for poor and/or lazy journalists, and last night was apparently a coming out party for them.

Let 'em whine all they want...it just goes to prove once again that winners just keep winning and losers just keep making excuses for why they didn't win ;) If their team was as good as they think they are, they would have won no matter what the refs did ;)

i actually had a friend of mine tell me today (and she is a LSU fan) that had that call gone their way it was a guaranteed td for them. She hasnt responded to me yet since i informed her of the 9 total yrds they had in the 2nd half and the fact that Jarrett Lee has thrown more pick sixes than actual touchdowns:lol:

I appreciate the post on the other thread that details how LSU is officially SOL. That is that Julio first touched the ball and was standing out of bounds at the instant, meaning that by rule the pass was incomplete even before the LSU DB caught the ball.

Great play, but it didn't happen.

Cheese to go with the whine

I think LSU fans will forget about this game after there next loss (Maybe two) this regular season.

Not literally, but they have a week off this weekend hosting La. Tech.
But, I do wonder how they'll rebound going into Oxford and then hosting the 'Backs.

252 mentioned it in another thread. Both teams have collapsed after losing this game the last two years.

It's not lost on some of the LSU writers. The front page of their Rivals.com site reads "The Season Isn't Over."

Isn't that an oxymoron or somethin', Porter? :rotf:

Funny...none of my LSUA&M fans are talking to me today.
It breaks my pea-pickin' heart.:laughcry:

Even if he caught it and got his foot down, which it did appear, I believe the reason it was called incomplete was that he never fully had posession of it. As he was dragging his foot, he shifted the ball from one hand to another (I think) and the ball wiggled just a little bit under his arm as he was putting it away. By the time he held onto it tightly, he was out of bounds.

Did anyone else notice that? Go back and watch it.

It was just a bang-bang play, as they say in baseball. So close that it might get called either way 50% of the time.

Officially, it's an incomplete pass. And LSU still hasn't scored, and now it's Monday. The officials are taking to much venom from fans and coaches for what is rarely an exact science. I even wish the SEC hadn't reprimanded the guys who handled the FL-ARK game, or the UGA-LSU game. It's the inconsistency that drives most of us bonkers.

All this being said, let's get real here: it's not the call that has LSU folks in a tizzy. it's the fact that we have Saban, and they have THE HAT.
