a Les Miles staff outcoach (with play calling) a Nick Saban staff.

Is the running game out of vogue now?

4 yards + 4 yards + 4 yards = 1st down . . . then again . . . then again . . .

Fire Jim McElwain. He's a brain fart that just wont fix itself. There was a drive we needed where we passed on first and second down, and sacked on second down, then we run on third and long. This year's play calling is totally unacceptable. I know alot of yall are gonna bash me but I dont really care. Im sick of these close games when we have the weapons to beat ANYBODY on offense, no matter how young our defense is. The play calling makes me sick.

I'm not gonna bash on you. I too have been less than impressed with our offensive playcalling. Our running game consists on running it up the middle with an oline that can't get out of it's own way, much less contain a decent defense. I'm not calling for Jim';s head but I will agree that I'd be lying if I said I was content with how we dial up plays and utilize ALL of our offensive weapons. Yes it starts with the oline but damn you don't abandon the running game just becasue you can't run it up the middle the entire game. The few times we did run out on the sweep we were successful or at least better than getting stuffed for a 2-3 yard gain.

Flame suit engaged.

I dont know if outcoached is the appropriate term. Definatly didnt expect it though. If any of those risky moves fail, we would be the victors right now.

I think our ability to block really cost us. Thought the big play guys, Gmac included, all played at a highlevel today. High enough to win easily, but those freeshots we gave on gmac and our inability to adjust to trickeration were the deciding factors. That and we were away, all factors in why I worried about this game more than auburn.

EDIT: BTW, if you must blame someone, i direct your anger to Joe Pendry, Kirby Smart, and Nick Saban. Ive had problems with McElwain, but offensive playcalling I thought was good today.

We used the off week to add................nothing, I guess, to the play book? Very disappointing.

I agree 100% with that. I was blaming a lot of the poor play on exhaustion and thought the week off would give the defense to catch its breath. I also thought this staff could take the two weeks and breathe some life into this lethargic offense. Wrong.

I'm not even referring to the risky moves . . . those are gambles. Ingram was finding a rhythm and some running room in the third quarter. Picks up 4 or 5 yards to start a drive with 8 minutes on the clock and then we go to a pass play that GMac unfortunately gets the ball knocked out of his hands. The run was there; it just seems like folks are too impatient to grind it out anymore.

Besides, it looked like their D-Line was starting to wear down and we let up by going to the pass. Only reason we had success with the pass plays on the last TD drive was because LSU was giving big cushions and playing prevent.

Well, I can understand that. Still though, i dont think play calling should be dictated by personael inconsistency when the team is this talented. I think the guys should be able to go to a high octane air attack when they feel like it. i am just looking at the guys who couldnt execute. And by saying that I dont mean guys executing at an even level with one side gaining an advantage due to play calling, im talking one side executing and the other not, for whatever reason.

I have yet to understand why when Ingam or Trent gets a decent or very good run, they go strait to the shotgun and throw it after we run for a first down. If our two rb's get a good run, let them run some more. Let them get in a rythym. As soon as they get a hot hand, we throw til we punt. Oh....and thanks for sparing me a bashing Bama Jamma. ;)

as much as i am also disappointed with the running game and play calling on offense. Bama is losing games because of a defense that can't get stops on 3rd and long, doesn't penetrate and lets the QB have entirely too much time on a regular basis. it's been happening all year. this last game and the SC game were the worst. i don't know if we ever stopped SC on 3rd down.

we scored 21 points in the two games we lost. 21 points is enough to win when you have a defense that helps keep you in the game with turnovers, sacks, changes of field position. we don't. our defense hangs the offense out to dry and sometimes vice versa. we gave up 35 points to a SC team that got owned by kentucky and arky. we gave up 24 points to the geaux tiger corn dogs that have one of the worst offenses i've seen them field since i was a kid and we owned them on a yearly basis.

our defense is a bigger problem for this team. i don't think we have the guys right now... or the guys we have aren't ready. the secondary is a mental problem. the line is a physical one. IMHO

Good thread. The rest of the threads have fans resting on what this staff has done in the past. I guess the past is good enough. As Tennessee fans how that works out. They rested on the past for about three years before anyone said anything. Now it has been twelve.

Maybe we could have added a play from the wildcat over the break. You know, a play where Ingram doesn't just get the ball and run directly into the middle of the line.

:lance:

Difference between resting on the past and learning from the past. But hell, we all know you know best when it comes to what this team should do.

I've been scratching my head with this all season. Auburn and other teams havent had a break yet and they continue to play well. Whats the difference with us? Our conditioning is supposed to be so good but we cant make it past 6-7 games without needing a break....
