🏈 I Hope Bama Never Signs Another Non-Mobile QB

At the college level these mobile QB's are the ultimate weapon. The NFL has managed to neutralize them for the most part (except for the elite mobile QB's) because their defenses are so damn fast and disciplined, but at the college level it is here to stay.

Come to think of it mobile QB's at the NFL level are also winning or playing for titles. (Wilson, Newton, etc.)

The last two seasons the college playoff has been dominated by teams with a mobile QB, and I would wager that they will be represented in next years playoff as well. Clemson the pre-season no.1 will be the pre-season no.1 completely due to D. Watson and rightly so.

Times have changed. If you dont have a QB who can hurt you with his legs you are at a disadvantage at the college level. There will always be a place for the Bradys and Mannings in the NFL, but at the college level give me an athlete.

If Barnett is the more mobile of next years possible QB's then I pray to the football gods he wins the job, and I sincerely hope the staff will put their energy into identifying and recruiting mobile QB's going forward.

Barnett is definitely the dual-threat QB you speak of. I don't care is Alabama has a mobile QB, who can beat you with his legs. I just want Alabama to maintain their M.O, which is pound the rock at the defense, and set up the play action pass and have a deep threat there to hall it in.

Ill just add, it's fun seeing a QB who can tuck it and run, but I'm honestly all for a QB who can evade the rush, keep his eyes down field, and wait for the open receiver. Last night Coker got killed because the offensive line broke down and didn't give the receivers enough time to even start their routes or get separation.

I first read this post as not wanting to sign someone who was from a place other than Mobile. Hey, the last two QBs from there have done just fine.

It's crazy that Mobile doesn't get the credit it deserves when it comes to producing talent. Everyone raves about Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, etcc.., and for good reason, but the area around MOBILE produces great talent and a crucial area Alabama has locked down.

OLine my ass... it was Dom Jackson all by himself. My god I have never seen an OLineman play that badly. He was so bad I started to wonder if he was point shaving.

This. He is great in run blocking, but an absolute turnstile at pass blocking. Have to wonder if he was injured although it's been that way all year.

Coker made some miraculous plays. That 3rd and 11 throw deep to Stewart that set up the FG to tie it up 24-24 was one of the unsung heroics of the game that put Bama in position for the onside kick. His scramble for 1st down and goal late in the 4th that made that last, and necessary, td was HUGE...

But, god almighty he was frustrating most of the night when pressure came and he was indecisive not quickly finding his check down, pulling it down to run, or getting outside to throw in a way. He didn't get much help with the pass pro as mentioned but didn't help himself either.

I love his heart and at the end of the day he proved he was a winner and showed why he is the team captain. Incredible resiliency and came through when it mattered delivering again and again, but I keep wondering how different it could have been if he was more mobile and a bit quicker making decisions. None of that matters though cause he did what he had to do. Thanks to him and all for delivering a great season and another NC.

Jackson took a major step back starting in the 2nd quarter and got worse as the night wore on. Taylor suffered too on the right side. Dodd is a good player in his own right, but Jackson made him rich.

The right side has been our weakness all year. I kept screaming at the TV, every time they ran to the right, which they did much more than to the left. The few times the runs to the left went less than 4 yards, it was when the right side let someone through to chase him down from back side. There were two good run on right side, both between center and guard, rest were negative plays. All of the runs on left side, except for two were positive plays of 4 or more yards. Also on Henry's final TD, he went right, got stopped, spun over to the left side to break the plane, as that side had done their job of pushing the DL and LB back enough.

Yeah I dont like singling out player but Jackson was horrendous last night. Dodd made him his bitch all night. Minkah played pretty atrociously too.

Minkah got beat on some very visible plays, but he made some very good plays as well. I don't think he grades out as atrocious. He was in pretty good position on the first TD, but it was a perfectly thrown ball.

Tim

A mobile QB alone doesn't get the job done... He has to be a very good passer too. To find true Dual Threat QB is rare to find, so I'm fine with a traditional pocket passer in lieu of a Semi-Dual-Treat QB.

I agree... actually, I thought the DB's played one hell of a game, except Cyrus on the last TD scored. Not sure if that was his fault or someone else's, but it was a total broken coverage play. Other than that, the QB had to scramble and make near perfect passes or the WR had to make diving some pretty damn good catches. I think the DB play was excellent...

Yeah, Coker was just horrible, winning every game he started, and not even being named the #1 guy until well into the season. Splitting 1st team reps all off season. Damn I cant beleive all he did was win the Championship game.
I mean who wants a guy that goes 263 393 (66.9%) with 21 TD's and only 8 INT's? Playing behind a line who couldn't stop a sneeze?
No, lets get some happy feet little bitch who winds up being a cancer to the team...

Shank was right there with him. I imagine they didn't want the other to be the only one abused all night. You know, team first.

Minkah did play better as the game went on and broke up a cpl passes in the second half but he got burned three times in the first and called for a flag on another (tho I guess it was okay for Clemson's DBs to hold Ridley all night but I digress). His problem was he just wanted to run with the receiver instead of trying to look for the ball. I thought Marlon played really well tho and Ronnie Harrison even tho he had a cpl mental lapses which looked like it almost made Cyrus' head explode.

Hope you are not trying to refer to Sims there.
