i just wanna say that all conferences have refs that can swing a game one way or the other.
we are used to playing for SEC refs and Clemson is used to playing for ACC refs. if you look at it a bit closer, SEC refs seem to let the guys play a bit more and get involved a bit more. it's just the nature of SEC play, we can be more physical and our refs seems to let it go on more plays. so i'm sure playing for refs from a different conference can throw a kink in your plays, at times.
now i'm not blaming the refs or bashing them in any way; just saying that they have a different style and may not be used to our SEC guys, or guys from the ACC.
it certainly looked to be a fairly physical game with both defenses doing some hitting and putting hands out there frequently.
yes, there were a couple calls that probably shouldn't have been called, and there certainly some calls that weren't made...as there are in any game. it's just the way it goes. i mean i'm honestly surprised we didn't get called for holding all game. and i'm sure it happened on more than one occasion, last night.
and if there were some blatant missed calls or calls that were made that really shouldn't have been, then i might have an issue with the refs. but from what i saw there weren't a LOT of those.
the pass interference was iffy, imo. it could've gone either way; it just so happened to go their way in that instance.
and the one in the endzone, towards the end of the game, shouldn't have been called. i never did see the replay so i could be wrong on this one. but to me it looked like the receiver started to fall and our guy just ran into him. to me, that's just forward momentum carrying him into the receiver. if it was different than that, someone can tell me because i honestly only saw the game-speed play and not the replay.
i think overall it was a fairly clean game...with the exception of the 4 freakin' penalties for us in the 1st quarter. kind of difficult to mount any kind of drive when you have that many in that amount of time.
