🏈 I hate to be that fan.....But Refs screwed us

Hard to believe Dieter is an all-time leading WR at Bolling Green.

He had 2-3 costly drops last night. And several throughout the season.

Everybody wants to blame Jalen coz he's "young" or "doesn't see the field" when many times, his WRs aren't helping him out at all...
or offensive line... he never really had time to see the field cleanly... at least not often... they brought pressure from the edge all night (ala the LSU game) and we never seemed to adjust to it.

The officials let plays go both ways all night. Our failure to convert on 3rd down cost us the game. Seeing Bo go down early to mid 3rd quarter didn't help either. As so many have already stated, the game hinged on the QB position and the experience or lack of experience they held. I felt confident going in that BAMA could hold Clemson down enough defensively, and that the offense would generate enough points to win.

Back to the officials and Clemson's last 2 TDs. Both were on pick routes if you are a defensive guy or rub routes or man beaters if you are an offensive guy. To me, the PI on Averett at the 2 yard line was probably a bigger call. Averett grabbed and held him outside the end zone but the official said the foul occurred in the end zone and thereby changed the spot of the ball. The penalty should have been assessed half the distance to the goal, the 6 yard line, instead of being placed at the 2. The spot changed the play call for Clemson. They more than likely toss up a fade ball, and then kick a FG and go to OT.

We have just become such a spoiled fanbase. 14-1 is a damn fine season and nothing to be ashamed of. While I hate it for the departing seniors, these young guys got a taste and I'm pretty sure they liked getting that first bite, but the damn after taste will be what pushes the '17 bunch. I had to console my 15 year old son last night and man was it hard. I explained to him that as long as CNS is the HC, BAMA WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE HUNT!! BAMA won't go 8-5, 7-6, 8-5 like some other schools do. Hell! Even the man that eventually replaces CNS will have a shot in their first 3-4 years as long as they don't screw it up!!

I'm going to take a little break now from the board for a few days, maybe even a week. Got to recharge my batteries and hopefully, score during this hunting season. No luck yet!! ROLL TIDE Everyone!!!

Me as well grad. Really love your perspective and input. I look forward to spring ball and next season.

This loss certainly doesn't diminish Saban's incredible run. In '13 we saw the kick 6 with one second remaining. In '14 a close call with The Ohio State or the Tide would have been the heavy favorite to win it all that year. Now this close game that came down to one second. Add '11, '12, and '15, and it's not unreasonable to think last night's game could have been six in a row. Just crazy. NCAA football would have become women's basketball.

Without the win last night, Dabo probably never wins one at Clemson. With the win, he has a much better chance at coming home to momma in due time. I can see him at the Capstone eventually.

You stop the drive back on the other side of the 50... you don't let it come down to a rub/pick play in the endzone... 'nuff said.

Pick play or not... We had chances to win that game if our offense plays better. You can't give 99 touches to a player like DeShaun and expect to win...

Looking at the stats, I'm surprised we were even in the game at all...

Our D let them screen pass and slant pass us to death... we missed tackles and let short routes go for 9+ yards instead to 1 or 2. Clemson had more heart, wanted it more, and executed better regardless of the refs.

I'm just glad that QB is leaving... now if that little white kid would too... damn those two!

Pruitt outta have his balls clipped for continuing to allow Renfroe to beat us. I mean, look at the film from last year and his play this year and he is clearly their go to guy like a Wes Welker. You gotta account for him and he was never covered and always open.

I am not going to go all in on the refs screwing us angle. That said, many of Renfrow's catches were made off of pick plays. They run him and another guy to same spot, other guy blocks off both dbs and Renfrow makes a slant cut, wide open. His longer TD was that way too. What they should have done was jammed him on every damned play.

I don't think Tony Brown every made a very good read on him... it was 3rd and 3 on that last drive and TB played 10 yards off him out of the slot... easy 3 yard slant for a 1st down... seemed TB was worried the white kid would beat him deep? I have no idea what he was thinking. I was literally up at the TV yelling... COVER THE SLOT, GET UP TO THE LINE AND COVER RENFROW!!!! I just don't get it... We were in man and you play 10 yard of the slot on 3rd and 3.... That had to be a bust of some sort, but it seemed the "NORM" for TB when he was on Renfrow.

Spot at the two was correct because the previous spot was the 9 and the foul was on or inside the 2. Half the distance would have been at the 4 1/2 so they probably would have scored on the illegal pick play anyway. If that was the rule. It's not.

"C) Team A’s ball at the two yard line, if the previous spot is on or inside the 17 yard line and outside the two yard line and the spot of the foul is on or inside the two yard line."

How did Renfrow not get scholly offers? Dude made 5 star DBs look like idiots two years in a row.
You probably know he walked on at Clemson (same class as Watson as I recall) and earned a scholarship. In a sense, he mirrors Dabo's collegiate experience.

I don't know if you knew ...

His dad was his high school coach in Myrtle Beach. That team runs the triple option and Hunter played QB. Ga Tech had shown some interest but ultimately quit recruiting him because he was so small.

When he earned a scholly I remember a story being told about the reason he's got good hands is because of his mom--she can't pass worth a damn.
