For some reason, and I'm probably way off, but I see him ending up at Clemson after next season.
I disagree with that Bran, and as much as I hate to say it I'm almost glad an Auburn fan is in this conversation. :headscratch:
First of all, we have to take into account he did get them to the ACCCG and they haven't won the ACC since '91.
Secondly, and this is really the point of my belief he's not out after this year, you have to look at what he's done on staff changes.
If you recall, Dabo fired OC Biily Napier (holder over from Bowden) three or four days after their bowl loss.
Last weekend he hired Chad Morris to replace him. Chad had been coaching at Tulsa as their OC.
Tulsa. Ironic, isn't it?
Both Morris and Malzahn share a past history that goes beyond Tulsa. When Morris was coaching high school—he is one year removed—Malzahn was still at Springdale. Gus had his program running, Morris did as well but in Texas.
In college, coaches confer with each other often. It's the same way in high school. In this particular case, considering both coaches had the same type of offensive approach, Chad and Gus spent a lot of time together.
I say all of that to get to this point.
Making the transition for Clemson is going to take at least two years. I can't see Terry Don Phillips firing Dabo unless something really torrid happens. And, knowing Dabo, I can't see that happening.
Granted, the offensive approach Chad has—Gus as well—isn't that complicated. It's a few plays and a lot of formations leading to those plays. Deception, smoke and mirrors, you name it.
Combine the division championship this year with the new OC leads me to firmly believe he'll get two more years. And, FWIW, that's the word coming from the different sports departments across the state.
A .500 record with a win against SC and he'll get another year. But, he'll be on the hot seat, no doubt.
