🏈 I hate myself for posting this...but, it's a thought that crossed my mind. Malzahn to Tulsa?

I would think he would at worst be in line for an ACC or Big East job next year. I could see UT, UGA, Missouri, or either of the Mississippi schools possibly looking at him too, depending on what happens next year.

And he'll make more at Auburn then Tulsa could probably pay him as a HC.

I agree, he would be better off staying at Auburn another year and landing something in the ACC or Big East. I dont see Mississippi State making a change (in less Mullin leaves) or UT (I think Dooley will have a good season in 2011). Also, I highly doubt UGA would go after someone that hasnt been a head coach in college yet. Who knows? One thing is for sure, Malzahn is a heck of an offensive coach.

Malzahn's raise bumped him to 1.3. Graham's contract at Tulsa was 1.3 but with a better incentive package that was Gus is getting right now.

OC to HC. More money. It would be a move up.

That is a logical choice considering his previous history there. He might want to jump on one of these before he gets nothing.

That's been part of my line of thinking as well. I don't think he'll be near as of a "hot name" after next season due to the loss of so many starters. I believe, but don't hold me to this, they lose seven on defense and with Cam's announcement it's seven or eight on offense.

Loking at our players that either start or rotate in regularly we lose 5 defensive linemen, 2 linebackers, and 2 safeties. 1 receiver, 1 running back, 4 offensive linemen, and Cam.

And a kicker and punter.

18 total.

For some reason, and I'm probably way off, but I see him ending up at Clemson after next season.

I disagree with that Bran, and as much as I hate to say it I'm almost glad an Auburn fan is in this conversation. :headscratch:

First of all, we have to take into account he did get them to the ACCCG and they haven't won the ACC since '91.

Secondly, and this is really the point of my belief he's not out after this year, you have to look at what he's done on staff changes.

If you recall, Dabo fired OC Biily Napier (holder over from Bowden) three or four days after their bowl loss.

Last weekend he hired Chad Morris to replace him. Chad had been coaching at Tulsa as their OC.

Tulsa. Ironic, isn't it?

Both Morris and Malzahn share a past history that goes beyond Tulsa. When Morris was coaching high school—he is one year removed—Malzahn was still at Springdale. Gus had his program running, Morris did as well but in Texas.

In college, coaches confer with each other often. It's the same way in high school. In this particular case, considering both coaches had the same type of offensive approach, Chad and Gus spent a lot of time together.

I say all of that to get to this point.

Making the transition for Clemson is going to take at least two years. I can't see Terry Don Phillips firing Dabo unless something really torrid happens. And, knowing Dabo, I can't see that happening.

Granted, the offensive approach Chad has—Gus as well—isn't that complicated. It's a few plays and a lot of formations leading to those plays. Deception, smoke and mirrors, you name it.

Combine the division championship this year with the new OC leads me to firmly believe he'll get two more years. And, FWIW, that's the word coming from the different sports departments across the state.

A .500 record with a win against SC and he'll get another year. But, he'll be on the hot seat, no doubt.

I'm not going to assume that Dabo is a goner just yet, although I think SC's recruiting dominance in the state, the rise of NC State and FSU, and the fact that the last 4 schools to win a National Championship have done so within 3 years of coaching changes suggests that he might be.

If he is I would expect Malzahn to get a call.

I also think Clemson needs to be at least an 8-9 win team in the regular season to keep him safe.

If they do fire him they will almost certainly look towards an SEC coordinator. Clemson is one of the few schools nationally that isn't a traditional powerhouse but still has the ability to recruit well. Few people recruit better than SEC assistants and SEC assistants are more likely to want to work for other former SEC assistants.

I like the Morris hire but they might not have the "Johnnys and Joes" to make his "Xs and Os" work properly.

I don't think Clemson fires Dabo unless something really drastic happens and Dabo doesn't have the track record to support that thought.

I do know this first hand (from Gus' Pastor) that right after he turned down the Vandy job he regretted that choice very much in fact his exact words were "Ronnie, I'm an idiot. Why did I turn that down?" So, I don't see him turning down another job offer whether it's from Tulsa or some other school.

I agree with Terry in the fact that Gus isn't going to be as hot of a name after next year because of players Auburn is losing.

He turned down Maryland after turning down Vanderbilt.

Malzahn was a hot name after the 2009 season as well, in spite of coaching on an 8-5 team. Next year's offense obviously won't be as good as this season's but it will not be horrid either. Malzahn will still be able to pick up a position after next season if he wants one. He would be an idiot to turn down Vandy and Maryland and accept Tulsa. He's said it repeatedly, he is waiting on the right program to offer before he makes the jump. The fact that he didn't go to Maryland shocked me. The ACC is weak--I'm still not sold on the rise of FSU.

I think FSU is on the rise due to the coaches that are in place and the fact that they can pull some outstanding from home. I think the Tulsa job is a logical fit because he served on that staff and produced some playstation numbers with that talent. Who knows, he may simply be waiting for Petrino to bolt so he can go back home.

UGA 2012? Richt better get on up or get on out. If Richt doesn't turn things around this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see ole Gus between the hedges. Thoughts?

Richt is definitely on the hot seat. I'm not sure about how Malzahn feels about Ole Miss, but Nutt is in some trouble over there, and I don't see any reason that they will be better than this past year.

Agreed!! Nutt selling his soul for Masoli really panned out for him and now he has no proven QB and can't seem to find a way to right the ship.
