šŸˆ Hurts, Bateman, Barnett and the QB competition

One defender having to spy Hurts is one less defender in coverage. Thats a big deal when dealing with a shrunk field. JMO
It's two different approaches to how you want to see a goal line offense—personal preferences.

I see special packages sneaking quarterbacks over a goal line about like I do trick plays. You don't want to be in situations where you're forced to use them.

With the type of athletic ability Hurts brings it can lead to an over-inflated third down conversion rate. Looks good, but do you really want to be relying on your QB on third down?

If its getting the job done, I couldn't care less how it's being done.

I trust Saban. So if he chooses a true freshman then that is the best decision for the program... He has made great decisions and his logic has usually been very sound.

Now he is a creature of habit and I would expect him to do what he believes has worked for him. I expect that we will see one of the two older guys start and probably do a 2 qb system until he sees who the lights come on for during the game. He has done it with Greg and star Jackson, AJ and Philip Sims aslo Jake and Cooper.

I think we will see Barnett and Hurts if it is as close as I have heard. But I don't care ultimately because I Trust Saban

PS. Don't believe anything from Touchdown Alabama..lol I did a little consulting work for them a few years back and I will just say that I would not find any reporting from them to be credible.

What would people be talking about this year if we didn't have a QB battle? It's taken the focus off a few battles that are probably equally as important, not to mention the new position coaches.

Losing Bo Davis certainly is not giving me the warm and fuzzies thats for sure. I can't say I've heard much buzz around Dunbar. Doesn't help that recruiting on the DL this year seems to be struggling.

Any chance Bo Davis can be rehired after sitting out a season/learning his lesson ? I doubt it, eh ?

I agree with most of what you said.

However, Greg didn't need a couple games to win the starting job. He took the first snaps against VaTech in '09 and never looked back.

The first real QB battle we had, even one that went into the season, was after Greg left, which was between AJ and Phillip Sims.

Deserves a thread in itself ...

If Hurts starts, wait until he has a bad game/throw/play. He, and Saban/Kiffin, will be crucified. Of course, the same could be said about any QB.

This is Stephen M. Smith on Mark Rodgers TV explaining why he thinks Hurts should start. It was Published on Aug 15, 2016.

Jalen Hurts - Alabama's Next Starting Quarterback?

Bama has a four-man race for quarterback. Should Nick Saban play it safe? Stephen M Smith of Tide 102.9 and TouchdownAlabama.net joins MarkRogersTV and SEC Breakdown to make his plea

Over-inflated? You act like its a bad thing if third down conversions go up because of a qb running. We always rely on qb on third down be it his arm or legs. It's just an added deminsion.

Imo, CNS Alabama style of offense is mostly a pro style offense. He would prefer not to have a "running qb ", but he does like an athletic qb who can get out of trouble if protection breaks down. Running qbs usually get pretty beat up as the year progresses. CNS recruits five and four star rbs to tote the rock.

I dont agree with that at all, Saban evolves with the game and he knows football is and has been evolving. He seemed to enjoy the dynamic that Sims brought to the table. I dont think he would be able to take a Manziel type of player that just runs in circles and then chunks the ball up in to the air, but I think he has no problem with a QB with wheels.

We have seen Kiffin take the offense to another level to the point where it is a hybrid with elements of spread and pro style. We even had some Baylor plays in the playbook last year.

Bo Davis got fired for lying. Hard to unring that bell. As for Dunbar, every time I hear that our defense is manhandling the O I'm assuming Dunbar is getting it done. Pruitt, Ansley and Dunbar all tell the tell with USC on deck.
