🏈 Hurts, Bateman, Barnett and the QB competition

Morris' opinion is about as useful as me or you, he admits to having never met the guy and I doubt hes even seen much (if any) film on him.

But thankfully, as far as the Russel Wilson comparison goes, Hurts is a good four inches taller than Wilson. They claim Russell is 5'11" but there is no chance, he's more likely a true 5'9".

Him being in the business of training QB's, and being in the know among the QB guru community was the big take away. "Morris has heard enough about Hurts through the quarterback grapevine"

I think he probably has a good source or two around the league about how certain prospects are progressing.

I get what you're saying though. Anyone outside of those post practice board meetings where they watch the film has no idea. Still its hard not to get drunk on these reports of having a possible phenom at QB.

Just think... a Bama team with the envy of the league at QB ? It would be too much for the college football world to take. They may all collectively throw up in their mouths a little if Hurts wins the job, and puts up a D.Watson like performance vs SC.

Asked which two of three quarterbacks — Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts — would be in the rotation, Herbstreit went with the more mobile and athletic options.

"Blake and Hurts is my guess," Herbstreit tweeted. "Or maybe Bateman and Hurts if Blake continues to make mistakes."

Barnett has struggled with consistency at times during fall camp, but Lane Kiffin has raved about the strides he has made and development since spring ball.

So Hurts is the one of the three that Herby thinks is in the rotation no matter what, ah ? Thats a big turnaround from the spring. I wonder what Herby is hearing out of camp, and from whom ?

The fact is, we DO have a phenom at QB. The only question is if the coaches feel he's ready to start. And they won't give the keys to Barnett, because Hurts would likely transfer.

You don't know that he would likely transfer. And if he would, I don't want him around. We don't need any player that feels entitled. Whoever our #2 QB is, he's one play away from being the starter. Our #3 QB is only two plays away.

Both Barnett and Hurts could be major QBs for almost any div 1 football program. Whoever loses the battle between them would be absolutely crazy not to transfer, for their own sake.

QB John Franklin III might be the starter at FSU for the first few games with Maguire getting injured. Play good enough and they leave you in for the rest of the season. You just never know. Fisher's put some QB's into the NFL.

I sure will be happy when we finish this thread and decide on who the starter will be, I am certain that Coach Saban is on pins and needles awaiting our decision
:argue:

This thread plays about 75% into his decision. We need to continue to offer him good advice.
Yup, he was at EMCC last year. My point, had he stayed at FSU, he might be starting with FSU's QB injured...but he transferred because he wanted to play. Might not get the starting gig at Auburn either. Couldn't beat out Wyatt either.

Franklin III sucks and has an inflated ego due to his quick time in Tallahassee. Francios would drill that kid. Sorry, off topic kind of, but I can't stand the guy.

Very high opinion of himself and very inconsistent, but "sucks" is pretty far from accurate.

I haven't watched any of this series that he is in about his JUCO experience but it is apparently not flattering of what kind of kid he is. The fact he cant beat out a JUCO QB for the job means he probably isnt as good as he thinks. Mix a shitty attitude, with full of himself and not talented enough to beat out a JC QB for the job and I would say "sucks" is a fair description. At the very least a team cancer.

Regardless of your opinion, or Saban's track record of redshirting freshmen quarterbacks, it's time to open up to the fact that Jalen is going to play. It isn't because the others are performing poorly, it's simply because he's that special. Bateman will start, but Jalen is going to play. book it.

I think 98% here think he will play. The questions are 1) how much will he play; 2) what order will he play; and 3) will he start?

4) Will it be significant enough to be worthy of burning a redshirt?

Without a doubt it will be; even if it results in one W that was going to be L.

If Hurts isn't the man by mid-season I could definitely see him coming in to save the day once the offense has sputtered in a close game at some point. Any goal line packages for him like Florida had for Tebow could possibly be a difference maker also.
