🏈 How many yards to you expect Alabama to give up to Ole Miss this weekend?

Since Saban can name Alabama's score, I'm good with whatever Ole Miss manages to accomplish on offense. I find it funny though thinking that Kiffin is going to run every single play that Saban ever vetoed in game planning staff meetings at UA. But if Saban wanted to, he could really embarrass Lane on Saturday.

I would say that it could depend on whether or not Lady Luck decides to sit her ass at home or show up and play for the Rebs. Just think back on the crazy ass, lucky bouncing interception they had against us a few years ago which helped have a higher score than we did when the clock ran out (I can't bring myself to say beat us).

I watched them play Florida and I was somewhat impressed with their offense....now that defense....uggggg

You know Lane will pull every trick he has in his book (and rightfully so) I just hope our secondary is up to the task of the mental game. Thus far, I would say the secondary is our weakest link on the defensive end.

Unfortunately you are probably right. The idea that we are concerned about giving up that many yards is just down right sad.
Efficiency, right? I'm not concerned about giving up yards. I am thinking we see Ole Miss get at least 350 and we'll see at the end of the season a defense that limited that offense; 350 will reflect a cut of roughly 30% of their production.

I knew you were going to go there. It is not that I disagree about efficiency. You can always look to see if we are holding them below their average. In the end a dominating D does not measure itself by that in my opinion. Lets just say we disagree because our D should be dominating period.

Some will argue that is not reasonable in todays football with the new offensive philosophies in the SEC but I disagree. Honestly I think we have slipped some from an overall talent especially in the D line and for sure our D coordinator is not as good (as seasoned) as we have had. Hard not to slip some when you have had the coaches and players like Allan, Jeffries, Reed, Hand, Anderson, Williams, Payne etc... that we have had. I still do not like it and it should not be watered down it should be fixed. I think things started slipping after 2016. Not that they are terrible but they are not dominating as an Alabama D should be. Last year was hopefully the lowest but we all know there was a combination of factors from having new D coordinator to all the injuries and players having to play that were not ready. This year I would think that would not be the case except maybe in the secondary.

Let's see how this year plays out but the first two games have been subpar in my book. Here is hoping we go out and shut OM down on Saturday. If/when we do, I will be the first to praise the D in the Good, Bud Ugly thread....

October, 2012, Nick Saban: "is this what you want football to be" when talking about spreading the field and the influx of HUNH offenses.
Today: Bama running a scheme that spreads the field and has elements of the HUNH offenses.

It's not just the offenses changing in the SEC; it's D1 as a whole.

What I find ironic is how we, as fans, talked about other teams when Bama was still running the ACE sets and how their defense wouldn't be as good as some believed because of their offense. Back then, fans saw it as an advantage for the Tide. Now that Bama is running the same thing the coin doesn't flip? 🤷‍♂️

Name a offense that is the same in the SEC today as it was back in 2010-2011. There's one, and they've changed (or hope to) with the addition of Monk. UofSC was a hold out as well under Boom and that's the reason he snagged Bobo.

Honestly I think we have slipped some from an overall talent especially in the D line and for sure our D coordinator is not as good (as seasoned) as we have had.
They've lost on a few guys the last few years. It's understandable considering the limited numbers on defensive linemen. Still disappointing. A guy like A&M's Brown would have been a nice addition to the line. (A&M has a few Bama was in on late.)

One thing Saban has been clear about and that's the coaching the line has had the last few seasons. It's his opinion Roach brings the coaching back to the level we saw under Davis. Neither Coach Kool or Baker stressed assignment football as much as Saban would have liked (and that's the main reason they aren't here any longer.)

This is very true; CLK knows it as well.

I'm thinking we'll see eight to ten explosive plays with their passing game, 3-5 running.

No disrespect to the folks that want that old anaconda defense (yes I loved watching them choke the life outta folks) but the fundamental shift goes all the way down to the high school level. Truthfully we are not seeing the same type player come up to be recruited. It is not necessarily the d-linemen that have changed. It is the linebacker position that has changed so much as well as the traditional strong safety types that were around even 5 years ago. Ad in the fact that the offenses have changed so much and the days of holding teams to 60 yards rushing 8 sacks and 165 passing are pretty much over. JMO
