🏈 How does ESPN come up with 9 NCS for Alabama?

"In the poll era..."

That's their "catch phrase" which is fine.

The AP poll started after we had the NC's awarded in the '20's, 30's, etc.

People make fun, rivals that is, of the claim of 14 NC's. So be it. It's never bothered me, at all.

However, make fun of that all you like. Now, Bama has more NC's in the poll era than any other school in the NCAA.

Really 1941 has been the rallying point to every argument. And its the only one personally as a Bama fan I do not understand.

But yeah, 9 poll era cannot be disputed and we are finally out of the tie with the Irish.

There's a compiled list on NCAA.org that covers how many schools and how many championships they've been awarded.

Noting that the University only claims 14, the football team has been awarded a National Championship 23 times I believe.

I understand it. I did the research. There were several entities awarding championships in those days. Look up all the "National Champions" of 1941. Then look up the records of their opponents. Houlgate was looking at strength of schedule. The Cotton Bowl of '42 was about as phenomenal then as last night's game was. http://media.attcottonbowl.com/resource/history/1942/rsrc/1942-Classic-Recap.
