šŸˆ Here’s how Thompson beat auburn HS for the 7A Championship tonight...

We just got back from it. Auburn's absolutely god-awful clock/game management cost them this game. When Auburn went into victory formation, Thompson had no TOs left. So instead of just taking a knee, the QB ran backwards five, ten yards at a time. Then the punt you saw the in the video...Everything Auburn did was so lacksidaisical. And then the online kick coverage in the video speaks for itself.

Thompson had never been down and had to play from behind this year. The Auburn DL was whipping THS all night. The THS QB, one of my former students and who already has offers from tinersee and uab, broke his collar bone. One of his senior weapons played QB in the second half; he didn't fare too well either. THS's RB, another one of my guys who is a USCe commit, was held in check most of the game.

This was AHS's game to lose. With a minute left, their students were getting ready to run on the field, and it looked like the team was getting its ring sizes recorded. Just on idle cruise control. There were blue-jerseyed kids lying all over the field in complete dejection after that FG. I can't imagine the anger the seniors have towards their coaching staff right now.

But! THS...back-to-back state champs!

They mentioned two consecutive PI calls put them in FG range. Were those decent calls? Any time left on the clock after the second PI or was the FG on an untimed down?

It almost looks like the high school tigers are paying for all of the luck their college counterparts have gotten this year. Hate it for the kids, but it's nice to not have any auburn team celebrate on our field.

Man, must have been some horrible calculations going on to let this happen. So you're up nine, meaning you probably played a solid game, so just do what you've been doing. I absolutely hate when teams go into cruise control mode or try to outsmart the game. I don't feel bad for the losing team because they failed to block for the punter, failed to field an onside kick, and were also flagged twice for pass interference, all with a minute left in the game.

This right here. That has burned so many teams, high school, college, AND pro, over the years. Cruise control is only ever good for driving a vehicle long distances; NOT football games.

Just ask Coach Saban about playing for 60 minutes.

Sounds like a SportsCenter moment right there.

It was. :)

The first call...I didn't get a good look at it; I don't know if the ball was catchable. The second PI was, but it had to be made. It was either that or give up a TD.

Auburn's punter had absolutely no desire to get involved after the punt block. On the onside kick, several Auburn players backed away from the ball (I'm guessing they hoped that the ball wouldn't travel 10 yards).

Like I said earlier, THS had never had to play from behind. The third quarter was rough...Give AHS credit; their coaching staff had the team so well prepared. For 47 minutes, they had taken it to THS. And then one minute showed...Sorry, just incompetent coaching.

Hard to be disappointed when anything called Auburn loses and especially in Tuscaloosa. No barner team is going to win in Tuscaloosa. The football gods showed no mercy .

Obviously hate it for high schoolers so this is a little tongue in cheek.

I think he had help on the other side that most likely breaks that ball up, so I don't think he even needed to do it then. Would have been a heck of a catch if he made it.

Poor coaching on AHS part. They should’ve already known with the time left that they couldn’t ice it completely on 3 kneel downs. Taking a knee from the shotgun is the dumbest thing ever. The QB gave up 7-10 yards of field position each time. Should’ve gotten under center and ran 3 straight off tackle plays designed to get wide and eat clock. The punt should’ve been in max protection and not spread. You invite a block to occur. Punter should’ve been told, ā€œI don’t give a shit what it looks like, just get it off and don’t get it blocked!ā€ The hands team looked like a cluster fuck with the guys who are always last to get in the game out there and they don’t know what in the Hell to do, because they are always playing grab ass instead of paying attention.

LMAO You’re killing it 93! Got me really laughing here. Spot on with the assessment! I don’t want to do a disservice to the schools for disabled students by making comparisons to that hands team. That would be unfair to those wonderful schools!

Back when I coached HS, this was the shit we seemed to always deal with on Thursdays. Those that never played were always playing grab ass while we went over all special teams. These were also the players that always stood at the back and opted out of drills and getting reps and then their dads came complaining on Saturday mornings about how "their son is at practice everyday but you don't play him because you play favorites!" When you put their little dumbass out there on Friday nights or even in a B game and they look stupid, then the parent comes back bitching about how "you embarrassed my boy!"
I will say this though, you can practice it over and over again and tell the kids what to do in every imaginable situation, but until those lights come on and they have to actually do it, you never know!!
