💬 Here's an interesting note: Belmont Stakes race today ... all the contenders are descendants from Secretariat.

Um, yes, Tiz the Law won and his time was 146.53... seconds. That's 2:26.5. Which is an excellent time, but it also means Secretariat would have beaten him by 12-13 lengths.

Um, no. the time was 1:46.53. For 1 1/8 mile.

"The race was shortened from the usual 1½-mile standard to account for competitors' unusual training schedules. Horses kicked off from a starting gate placed atop the backstretch, rather than in front of the grandstands."

Interesting. This is the piece that I read. Scroll down to where it says 146.53 seconds and four lengths.

A typo, no doubt. Or, the guy writing the piece didn't understand how a clock works? 🙃

NY Times.

It was the fifth victory in six starts for the son of Constitution, and the $535,000 first-place check pushed his career earnings past $1.4 million. He ran the mile-and-an-eighth distance in 1:46:53 and paid his backers $3.60 for a $2 bet.
