There's another clip I saw earlier showing the "neighbor" stepping in front of them; purposefully. It looks like he was looking for a fight.

I went and found it. Ritchson was wearing a body cam, link below. It's clear the neighbor was the instigator, stepping out in front of a moving bike, twice, and pushing Ritchson twice, including once that made him lay his bike down. That's when he put him down. I'll say he was overly patient, and the guy got less than he deserved.
