🏈 Hell has Frozen over....

Am shocked at the non supporters of Eli... who wanted 1 more year...after 30+

Shocking..
Two years ago he missed the whole season.
Last year he wasn't healthy enough to cover the games so he announced half of them: home contests.
He was slated to do the same thing this season; work part time in a job that requires full time effort.

From a business perspective; the right choice was made.

Learfield sports does not own Bama....they may have a contract but the UofA has input...
To think The UofA has no i put in decisions and LF sports owns them ...is naive
Input, and making contractual decisions are opposite ends of the spectrum here. UA making their input known about the health of Stabler when he took his LOA? Sure. But he certainly didn't ask UA. He talked with Coach Moore when he decided to hang it up: under different circumstances, yet related.

I don't see this a matter of no-support of Eli as much as it understanding the decision.

I find it puzzling so many complained because Verne got names mixed up and we're a decade or more into Eli missing down, distance, and other more important things: the game itself.
es, Eli has a long history, but sometimes changes need to be made especially in this transition to DeBoar.
I believe the timing is ideal; damn near perfect.

Do they really want the main PBP guy on a victory lap/retirement tour while the new coach is in his inaugural season?

Sounds like they did him a favor. I never cared for him, but I know a lot do, and there is nothing worse than the back end of a great career and only being remembered for the last bad years instead of the Hall of Fame career.

We have some fans that want to treat Eli like he was Bobby Bowden and we all saw how that turned out. Eli did have some great calls over the years, but like @TerryP said, he missing simple things that are necessary for a play by play guy, down and distance. It was time for a change.

The hell you say, who knew? :p

Coach Bryant said it best!! Eli’s time had come!
Right. Everyone has their time. You think teachers should be canned just because someone has decided ....to old to teach the new generation..( wife taught for 20+ and was around and saw teacher burnout) .and they dont need to have a job... subjective bullshit...u know that

Coaches..have a lot of "measuring sticks" Ws and Ls.
Bear was there... Nobody was gonna fire him...or Nick...
Eli...subjective...from someone..probably AD

I listened to eli for a game i couldnt make...last year....except for constant commercials...everything "brought to you buy something "...which was awful.

Wasnt bad.....fun listening .....But maybe i just dont knowhow to listen to-a game...

Anyway...i think it was bullshit ...as has been a bunch of stuff from this administration...

Thats me...

The great calls were because of Alabama. Alabama wasn’t great because of the calls.

Like your wife, I too saw burnout come to many teachers during my 28 years, often times never making it to 10 years! I saw others that needed to be shown the door because they were awful at their jobs but the tenure law kept them in place.
As a former HS coach, I know very well about that W and L measuring stick. Doesn’t matter the competition played or what lifelong lessons you instill in a young athlete.
The constant commercials are a pain, but if you had listened to Eli in the past and then compared it to that experience last season, you could definitely tell that the game had passed him by.

Just differences of opinions...
Nothing personal between any of us...
I loved Eli...another year wouldn't have been earth shattering..doing Aday wouldnt have hurt... probably could have been handled better...on both ends

Just change of the guard...

I remember Perkins ....he made change at radio...at bears tower.... others

A changing of guard...

The great calls were because of Alabama. Alabama wasn’t great because of the calls.
Of course...no one thinks that..

Well...maybe growing up in more of radio era......creats more affinity for announcers

Both the announcers..the band ..the fans..the players...combination of what makes bama ....bama...

There are some that have that voice... listen to Lindsey Nelson...or vin scully....or dizzy dean...red barber...larry munson... their voice. ...wow

It wasn't you. It was the broadcast.

You are circling around a core goal with Learfield, IMG, and the whole lot.

The "radio era" almost dead. The only time it really gets attention (local crews) is when we have "home town broadcast teams." That's one of the ideas being floated in the "sports only packages" for TV/streaming/etc. (IE: ABC crew, UGA crew, UA crew: three broadcasts.)

Chris is much better suited to help them continue their evolution.

So...what i pick out of this is...radio almost dead...who listens...because every game. ...almost... die hard fans.l....probably true...
But nobody ask me...so whatever is my attitude about this...

And @mando ...Byrn isnt going to do that..

Look at other things... no way

I can't get the Alabama game on my radio here in Georgia, atleast not to my knowledge, so it's not helping me out at all.

No need to ask. You hesitated about a millisecond before sharing.

It's not "almost dead" like the print media, but it is evolving.

In terms of what's happening with CTSN? I believe we'll see changes on more than one front. A LOT of areas to grow.

Internet feed.

But now, you can also watch the game.

In 2022 WVUA had a pre-game show on TV. You could watch it live on their site...and things brings up another point.

It's not about just announcing the play by play. A lot goes into the pre-game show: and it wasn't too good the last time I checked.
