I will say regardless of the performance tonight, you cannot hurt a team for playing an extra game and put in a team that doesn’t play one or even any conference games.

An extra game against a team you already beat ON THE ROAD. Punishing an SEC team that a) was the regular season #1 seed and b) lost in the conference championship game, would almost certainly trigger changes to the overall system that the lesser conferences (everyone but the SEC and Big Ten) would not like.

My son said that very thing at halftime. He said “if they keep us out and put in anybody over us then college football as we know it is changed forever and it would force ND to join a conference and it would end the SEC title game because then teams would say “bs we’re not playing in it”

Also beat a healthy Mizzou team at their place (they were #14 at the time)... and even with a backup QB, IMO Mizzou was pretty stout... but they are definitely a top 25 quality team, IMO.

I forgot to mention Mizzou, they finished 8th in SEC. Good team, but mid-tier in conference. Weird year in the SEC.

IMO, they beat Vandy if Pribula didn't get hurt. And likely beat OU too... he came back for that game, but wasn't close to 100%.

You know, if this ends up being the last year of the SEC title game, since they are adding a 9th conference game next season, maybe they do leave us out this season after all. On the other hand, I could see them feeling obligated to keep us in if they intend to keep conference title games.
