I just realized that they play Jacksonville State on September 18th. Even with Ryan Perilloux graduated, many think JSU will actually have a better team this season. They will likely slap GSU all over the field...it will be very ugly.

And we play them.

My only solace in that game is that we are basically using it as an off week to prepare for the short week/thanksgiving week against Auburn. AU once again has an off week and we will be playing on a shortened schedule made shorter by the holiday. That almost bit us last year. With GSU as our opponent, it should have no bearing this year.

Given the difference in talent levels, we should be able to prepare for Auburn and completely ignore GSU - and still beat them by 50 with our 3rd team.

With the exception of a few juco's and transfers, their entire team are fr and redshirt fr. Their only OL over 300# played one season of HS football.

I really wish we were playing a Sun Belt or CUSA team.

We know that there are 100 ways that we win the battle but lose the war here. I suggest that be don't give the polls "apples" but "oranges". Make the result irrelevant by NOT playing the starters.

The scrubs would both beat GSU and benefit greatly from the experience. Then when we leave the polls with a, say, 14 point win and no reason to justify a move up or down in the polls.

Bill Curry had a pretty good record at Bama, and was nowhere near the worst coach we've had. I don't care for the guy either, but let's not act like he was terrible. All that being said, we will beat them by as many as we'd like.

I agree. The only thing Curry did wrong is not beat Auburn. I woulda run for the hills too in the face of this fan base.

Is this really a game to worry about? I think we'll be fine. I don't see the team coming into the Auburn game and getting knocked back on their heels like last season. I'm sure the coach will have the team prepared for anything those tools throw at us!

The issue is two fold.
First, there is a perceived degree of severity that we should beat them. Should we win, but not play up to that standard, then we look bad. That late in the season a hard charging challenger in the polls could have an impressive win against an impressive opponent which would open the door for us to be jumped in the polls. Sure, we have Auburn and a Conference championship game to try to regain that lost ground, but if that challenger also has a conference championship game, our grand fanle could be less grand.

Second, if we blow them out we will impress no one because its Georgia State. All that energy would take away from our prepping for Auburn.

This is why I suggested not playing our starters. We can still win, but the victory will be one that will neither help nor hurt us, which may be the best that we can do.

we are no doubt going to slaughter them. This isn't going to be one of those "surprise" shocker games, but I do wonder if the addition of Star Jackson can get them some first downs and keep some pressure off their defense. Lord knows they will need all the help they can get.

Should be a shut out if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot and turn it over somewhere deep in our own territory.
