I can see where Coffee is coming from though. With Andre and Antoine leaving this year those holes may not be near as big as they were this season. He might actually be an improved back if he stayed, but have a worse year in terms of stats.

I am very excited about Scott being moved to defense. Our secondary was a very glowing weakness in the SECCG IMO and I even made the statement to my brother after the game that Scott needed to move to defense because of his big play ability.

I think that analysis is spot on. He was running behind probably the best O-Line since CS was playing and that's saying alot. He would be basically risking the growing pains associated with a new O-Line coming into it's own. I agree that he doesn't have the "IT" factor that sets him apart from other NFL backs. His stock may be as high this year as it ever will be. I think our O-Line will be good but Linemen like AS and AC don't come along that often. I think if he projects in the second round he goes and that is probably the best he'll get. JMO.

One thing to consider, is that while Coffee did have one of the best lines to run behind, many times teams stacked the line because they didn't fear the passing game. All signs point to our passing game actually improving next season. While some will say that means less running, it also means teams will have to focus more on the passing, opening up lanes. Coffee has worked his butt off and this year it showed.

TP or anybody; has Smith submitted his name to the NFL advisory board?

You also have to consider that with TR coming in, and Ingram with another year in the system, Glenn's carries could possibly diminish, as well. I also agree with your last sentence.

On BJ - If you follow recruiting, it's easy to see just how much attention CNS is giving the DB position. Should be some serious battles for playing time next fall. Any chance we see Arenas working some as a slot receiver?

Coffee played very, very well in 2008. As good as Ingram is, Coffee was more consistent. Richardson is an unknown. I don't think his commitment makes one hill of beans difference in terms of Coffee's decision to submit his name.

I think he probably will submit his name in order to be evaluated, but will return. The eval will help him to determine what areas of his game he needs to improve.

As for Arenas on offense, don't hold your breath. He has a lot on his plate already, and we have some very good receivers on campus - with more on the way.
Two things concerning Arenas. CNS mentioned something about using him on offense (as a slot receiver?) in response to an asked question from a reporter at a press conference earlier in the season. Coach mentioned the same thing you did regarding his plate being pretty full as it was. The impression I got was that IF he was to be used on O, it would be "later", & that brings me to my second thought......is there any possibility that JA could be unseated as a starter next year? That's about the only logical way I could see him being used on the offensive side of the ball. Not suggesting anything, just pushing an idea out there for discussion.

As for Coffee, I agree he is the best back we had this year, & hope he is simply doing what you suggest.....testing the waters & panning for quality feedback. I certainly hope to see him back for his senior year.

Javy had a hell of a year at CB this past season. Great at open field tackles...perhaps, the best tackler in our secondary.

Just a guess...

But if there was one guy that might be challenged for his starting role in our secondary it would be Marquis in our dime package.

We this class coming in assuming we pull one more safety in as well...it's starting to get to be a unit the is deep and has a lot of talent.

It's getting kinda "late" in Javy's career to be changing positions, anyway. A question. If we hadn't had such a need at DB, do you think he would have ever gravitated toward the O side of the ball?

Not that I'm aware of...
To answer my own question, he did apply just a bit ago, according to this report;
University of Alabama junior left tackle Andre Smith confirmed to reporters Thursday that he has requested a projection from the NFL advisory committee on where he could expect to be selected in the 2009 Draft.
I was hoping he wouldn't.

I think Coffee is doing it on the wishful thinking idea. Although he did a hell of a job for us this year I can't imagine he'll like where they project him to be. Although I could be wrong I don't see him going before the 4th round. I don't think our running game will dip that much next year, but I could be wrong.

Makes sense to me that Smitty filed as he should. ESPN has him projected as the first or second pick. I would jump to the NFL if I was him.

Really glad to see Cody coming back. Although I think he's a hell of a player I don't see where it would've made sense for him to forgo his senior year. I think his stock will go up with another year in college.

Which is why this was posted yesterday afternoon. Dre said he'd done it earlier this week when he was talked with yesterday when all the media guys were on campus for Saban's press conference and subsequent interviews.
