🏈 Former JSU coach, athletics director Jim Fuller dies at 76

Fair Park Little League teammate. Battery mate actually. I couldn't pitch but I was big for my age and could throw the heck out of the ball. He was the only one on the team scrappy enough to get behind the plate when I was throwing. I was 12 and he was 8!

Very personable guy. Recruited a kid I coached back in the mid 80s. Remember him showing me a 3 ring binder with about 300 pages and saying “this is our playbook…for Penn State”. He coached the OLINE, Homer Smith was OC at the time.

Coach Fuller recruited me when I was in HS and he was so likable!! He was tough but he was a players coach! He once showed up at the school to talk to my HC and I saw him so I ran over to him to talk. He told me he couldn’t because of NCAA rules not allowing coaches to talk to recruits at certain times. I asked “how about friend to friend?” He stared at me for a second or two and said, “well Hell! I don’t see why not! How’s your mom and dad and little sister?”

He played on 2 National title teams, ‘64 and ‘65 and then coached in 3 separate staffs at UA ( Perkins, Curry, and Stallings). He will be missed!!
RIP Coach
