TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State's sports teams will be on probation for the next two years because of an academic cheating scandal.

According to an investigatory report released by the university, about 60 student athletes have lost or will suffer some loss of eligibility. Two staffers already have been fired.

Florida State officials conducted the investigation with assistance from the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference and a consulting firm.

 Not... 2 years of Probation!!! The horror!

I haven't kicked trigger in a while so...

Alabama self-reports a coach trying to get $$$ from a booster, fires him and get's 5 years of probation...

There... I feel better now. :D

I thought it might elaborate, but it said exactly what you posted.

Yeah I was kind of disappointed it didn't stipulate exactly what the punishment would be :(

Is this final? Usually, the self imposed stuff precedes the NCAA giving a stiffer sentence.

If that happens I think Jimbo will jump ship

Here's a little more. Two years, will reduce scholarships and 12 returning football players will miss the first three games. The article didn't say how many scholarships they are losing, but it did say:

"The university today released the findings of that internal investigation, which it has submitted to the NCAA. FSU's probe resulted in several self-imposed penalties."

This usually means the NCAA has not approved the penalties yet, and could affirm or strengthen the penalties.

"The report did not specify how many scholarships each program involved would lose. Football, though, is certain to suffer the most - some two dozen players were involved in the scandal."
