šŸ“” Fans are burning things in Lexington after loss to UNC (NSFW)

I literally live two mile from the KY. state line and am surrounded by southern Ohioans and Northern Kentuckians who are distraught this morning. I don't get it, they root for the Buckeyes in football and UK in basketball. Expectations in the Bluegrass State for basketball our like our expectations for football; most of the time unrealistic.

Bama has been winning at such a pace that a few setbacks seem reasonable. I wonder if the constant coming up short is taking a toll on big blue nation?

With the exception of 2012, UK's one and doners seem to plane out in the elite 8 and final 4, which is still pretty damn good, but not up to the UK fans standards.

I'd have to look at the Final Four numbers, but I glanced at the Elite 8 years a few days ago and this run under Cal rivals their best in history under Pitino.

Pitino: 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 (Two NC's in this stretch separates the two right now.)

Cal: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017

The Rupp to Hall era for appearances in the early '70's is going to be tough to beat.

I agree, though imo, if Cal could get some of those kids to stay a couple of years, I believe he could give them a run for their money. To get as far as they do playing true freshmen year in and year out, if they could go at least two years with the same players, that would make them Alabama football scary.

I saw a screen graphic on Sportscenter over the weekend listing the number of players Kentucky has sent to the pro's that still have eligibility left. It was at least 10 deep, maybe 12.

I wouldn't put Pitino as the gold standard in comparing Cal. I certainly don't give him the Tubby championship season, so for all his recruiting and deep dives into the big dance, he was left with a very pedestrian 1. Press defenses seem to run out of offense sooner or later. He was a lot more Joe B. Hall that Adolf Rupp. But then I still think the golden age of Lousiville basketball would easily be the Denny Crum era with his wonderfully creative high flyers.

Yeah, I saw that one too, going back to the freshman of 2014 and what would have been senior class at UK this year, there are a total of 11 players in the NBA.
