-- Offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor was practicing after his July arrest for DUI. Nick Saban said at the time he was suspended indefinitely. The 2015 starter was working behind Brandon Kennedy, where they were in spring practice.

-- Running back Bo Scarbrough was favoring his right leg, watching most of the running back practice drills from the side during the media viewing period. The sophomore had his helmet off and was leaning on a trainer. Freshmen B.J. Emmons and Joshua Jacobs were taking reps along with top returning rusher Damien Harris.

-- Left tackle Cam Robinson was moving at full speed after missing spring practice with a shoulder injury.

-- Freshman linebacker Mack Wilson was practicing after suffering a few off-season injuries. He appeared to be moving well. Wilson was practicing with the middle linebackers along with fellow five-star freshman Ben Davis.

-- Both newcomers Raekwon Davis and Jamar King were practicing with the defensive line.

-- New defensive line coach Karl Dunbar wore the sweatpants and sweatshirt combo with temperatures nearing triple figures.

-- In the past, Alabama broke up first-day practices with veterans going in a morning session with newcomers in the evening. That's no longer the case with everyone practicing together.

-- Legendary practice referee Ed Conyers, who dates back well into the Bear Bryant days, was out there again for another season

2 different reports - 1 saying Kennedy was at RG and Rodney Orr saying Warmack at RG.

Bozeman at RT is not a shocker. He has size, experience, versatility. Good player to have starting or as the 6th man.

Raekwon Davis qualifying is awesome. He must be a monster. Can't wait to see him in some practice clips... Jamar King too.

-- Bo Scarbrough was back to full speed, leading running back drills after being slowed by cramps Thursday. Damien Harris was next in the line, followed by Derrick Gore and freshman B.J. Emmons.

-- On the quarterbacks, there just isn't much to observe in the media viewing period. There's no discernable hierarchy to the drills we observe. All four scholarship guys were out there along with freshman Montana Murphy of Southlake (Texas) Carroll. Nick Saban said David Cornwell has been slowed by a foot injury but looked fine out there Friday.

-- On the offensive line, there were some guys playing in different spots. When they lined up five across, Jonah Williams was with the first group at right tackle. Bradley Bozeman was next to him at right guard.

-- Korren Kirven was with the second team at right tackle while true freshman Scott Lashley the third teamer.

-- On the left side, Matt Womack was with the second group at left tackle.

-- Watching the defensive line for a few minutes, it's hard to miss freshman Raekwon Davis. He's every bit of 6-foot-7, 315 pounds.

Neither Jalen or Cornwell do it so I dont think its a Kiffin teaching tool and if Im not mistaken Barnett was doing it in high school. I dont really care what it looks like as long as it gets the job done but it does look awkward at times.

That's a LOT of batted balls at the LOS.

Plus, bad mechanics will eventually lead to more inconsistency.

Very few successful QBs have awkward throwing motions. Brett Favre and Phillip Rivers both had/have semi-awkward releases. But QBs that are extremely talented despite their mechanical flaws are few and far between.

Bateman's throwing motion is interesting... Kind of like his balance goes forward, backward, forward. Can look fluid at times... But on the run he looks more mechanical than the other guys.

Seems like he makes an effort to throw it "over the top" which probably impacts the deep ball... But seems to be pretty effective with the shorter passes.

Rashaan Evans on his position change:

"Coach Saban put me in a position to kinda try out and basically, I'm still there for right now," Evans said. "Wherever he puts me, that's what I have to do."

Evans played 14 of the 15 games last season as a sophomore, making three of his 10 total tackles in the title-game win over Clemson. Two of those three stops were sacks.

But the outside linebacker depth chart remains a crowded place with Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson back.

There was a little more daylight with the middle linebackers. Three of the four Mike linebackers from last season's depth chart are no longer on the roster. So Evans shifted over during spring practice....
