I've always thought their FPI was dumb. Maybe part of that is I've never bothered to try and understand it (in terms of the formula), but I also don't understand the point of it. A lot of questions in that "ranking", but Texas A&M as the 6th best SEC team behind LSU and auburn? When you've got data points like that, you lose me.

There's no reason to bother trying to understand their formula. Just like their QBR ratings they call it "proprietary." Neither have been defined. No one beyond Bristol knows how they come up with their rankings.

I thought the exact same thing when I first looked at it. What was funny was their commentary on how it didn't perform at all like they expected and it made no sense to them either!
