Heather DickItch = Taryn Manning?

Let me have some of that shit you're smoking...

I think the biggest lesson to take from all this is that if you piss off the silent majority, the conservatives, there will be financial repercussions.

We don't put on masks and riot, set **** on fire, and physically assault people. We hit you directly in your wallet without breaking a single window. A blood-less revolution.

Make Sports TV Great Again! Lol

I stopped watching ESPN a while ago. Only thing I really ever watched was sportscenter, 30 for 30, and college football programming. Didn't really watch any of their other shows, never really cared for them. Their programming has sucked for a long time. The liberal views, I'm sure have turned people away, but that would be solved by getting rid of the bad shows. This was bigger, across all sports to cut spending to deal with loss of subscribers.

I'm of the opinion this is mostly due to cord cutters and people just not having or wanting tv service. Netflix, amazon prime, youtube, and such via handheld devices have cut into their business model and will continue to do so.

My kids don't watch live tv, haven't for 3-4 years now, and prior to that rarely did due to DVR. Why should I pay $100+ a month for live TV service that I don't need? HDTV antenna will get you local channels for ~$40.

Fuck ESPN, they have feasted for too long off those who couldn't unbundle them from their tv service.

lol at "this is a conservative revolution" oh please. Older conservatives are the main people left watching ESPN the traditional way. This is 100% due to cord cutting, that has to do with the way people are consuming media. I've said this before and its just getting worse and worse. ESPN isnt the only company feeling it. ALL the cable and satellite companies are feeling it, ratings are pretty much nonexistent for everything (save for a few shows) up and down the channel dial compared to just 5 years ago. I said it last time, its only going to get worse and worse...

ESPN is so worried about that "conservative revolution" that their president has said they are going to be going towards MORE "personality driven" programming... oh and a subscription service outside of cable packages (beyond smart).

Hate to see folks like Jay Crawford unemployed though, that sucks. Danny Kannell... Trent Dilfer... yeah well... sorry.

In this very thread you have several saying the reason they don't watch ESPN programming is due to their content. IN THIS THREAD. But, it's 100% due to cord cutting.

There are numerous articles published reflecting the same--but it's 100% due to cord cutting.

There is also the working idea that ESPN has simply overspent for content. Being the worldwide leader in sports doesn't mean you simply throw money at the NBA, NFL and even our beloved college football. They don't seem to negotiate with the same savvy and dexterity of other bidders. Collin Cowherd recently mentioned that Fox sports paid 1.1 billion for their NFL games and they get the one o'clock window and the 4 o'clock. They get marquee matchups throughout the season and finish with wildcard games, NFC championship and 2 of the next 4 Superbowls. ESPN paid 1.9 billion for their contract and get no Superbowl, or conference championship, and increasing people have to sit through completely irrelevant games by a lot of the bottom feeders in the divisions. Collin mentioned during his time at Bristol that in one year they went from a 400 million dollar contract with the NBA to 1.4 billion. He knew things were never going to be the same around the ole homestead paying 4 times as much for the same content in a year.

I agree that cord cutters are tired of the entire cable package, not just ESPN programming. Given the trend by younger viewers, they will eventually have to reinvent their cable content to survive. But these huge contracts are leaving little wiggle room when downward trends occur.
