🏈 Eli Gold

My only complaint.

I don't mind the complete breakdown on the razzle dazzle, make six players miss play, but for the love of God....before spending 20 seconds telling me the exact moves of the runningback and what hole he went through, tell me how many yards were gained and where the ball is on the field.

Damn, the only way I can tell that it's a big gain is by the sound of the crowd. Eli isn't going to tell how big of a gain it is until he's finished breaking down the play from the handoff to the tackle. :swear:

This.

I like Eli Gold as Well.
I do miss Kenny Stabler tho, I thought they did a great job together. Chris Stewart does an excellent job with Bama Basketball and I thought that he would get the nod to join Eli.

No one loves Alabama football more than Eli, and that is going some for a guy who grew up in Brooklyn. I would also agree with those who describe him as a very nice person. Still, I spent seemingly half my life listening to John Forney do Alabama play by play, and Eli is just not in Forney's class when it comes to play by play. I've done what many of you do to avoid annoying network broadcasters, mute the TV and listen to Eli's call. I have grown very frustrated with him as far as down and distance, yards gained, etc. as it conflicts with what my eyes are telling me. And in those situations where I am listening in the car, there is entirely too much of things like this: "Bama's ball, first and ten on their own twenty. There's a handoff to Coffee, who picks up five yards to the twenty four, making it second and four." I'll listen to him pre-game and post-game, but I wll avoid it during the game. Both Forney and Paul Kennedy, who was with us for a season, were far better play by play announcers than Eli.

I concur.
And it wouldn't hurt if he would give the score everyonce in a while.

I've always liked Eli because he does get excited and often gets carried away with himself. He's a color man and tries to present it like you would try to describe it if you had attended the game. I grew up listening to John Forney and Doug Layton in the booth and Jerry Duncan on the sidelines. I loved them too. It is the boring guys that make you nod off during a game that I can't stand. You've got to be somewhat of a homer.

John Forney was great. Lets put it this way...

In my eyes Forney is the NFL and Gold is basically Western Kentucky.

Keith Jackson, yes.

Eli Gold, not so much.

Eli does fine as long as you can watch the game while he calls it and you don't have to depend strictly on him to know what's going on.

This ^^

Eli lacks the ability to paint the picture correctly while listening to him. Players actions differs from what he says in the booth( this includes down and distance, broken up pass plays and even where the ball was thrown). Drives me nuts, especially since there is the 3 second delay on national tv, and the play ends up being totally different than what is being said on the radio. Eli does have a special voice just not the ability to frame the game with words. Keith Jackson on the other hand is an all time great. Eli is no where close to that.:a:

When I was stuck in upstate NY and had to depend on Eli and Kenny over the net to hear Bama games I never had any problem following the game.

Is he suppsed to give the score between every down?

I guess some people just have to compalin about something.

I'll be listening to him again this week. Right now he's the voice of Alabama football. Deal with it.

We do deal with it. None of us "hate Eli". When Eli is placed in the company of legendary play callers such as John Forney or Keith Jackson, as has been done in this thread, though, that invites comparison. The comparison is not at all favorablr to Eli.
