šŸˆ Defense needs major fixing

No INTs hurt us. We could have really used one to stop one of those drives. They came out and closed the gap from 35-17 to 35-31 very quickly in the 3Q. Glad some of you guys still weren’t anxious. I sure was. And Trask missed some wide open guys on a few plays.

Key drive for the game for us, the 1 minute TD drive before halftime. If we don’t put on that drive, different result in the game.

Attention gloom and doomers! CNS has already addressed these issues with these offenses in at least one interview. The basic premise is to force a few 3 and outs because you are not shutting them down as in days of old. Then again listening to the GOAT doesn’t fit with the defensive gurus stirring shit after a damn good win to cap a damn good season by a damn good team.

Anyone talking matchups, well the matchups against Clemson and Ohio State are going to be much of the same, yet they have better run games. If it wasn't for Metchie's bone crushing hit to get the ball back, we possibly lose last night. Don't forget we have four and five star defensive backs, not scrubs.

The only thing is they do not have killer tight ends. Ole Miss and Florida shredded us due to their tight ends. Moses has had a challenging year, but I still like him out there. Wright and Battle are the guys I feel should be picking up a lot more of the slack and making plays. Too many times I see them near the end of a pass play lacking in the effort and hustle category. That's my opinion, no one elses.

The D doesn’t need major anything.

Were you watching the same game last night??? Golding doesn't have a clue on coaching. He just sits there with a mask on. At one point, Saban literally stoops down to look him in the face and go off on him (I supposed you missed that too). Why Strong is not in the DC position by now is the biggest mystery. Jobe for example... most of his mistakes were teachable moments. Lined up offsides the whole time, having to grab to prevent further damage.... Pete Golding is easily the worst DC ever.... Bama's version of Ted Roof. Clemson's D is better than anyone's in this PO and they got O to match. As lights out as Mac and Smitty have been, they'll have pull a Houdini act to match the shortcomings of that D. Put Strong at the healm now gives him a couple of weeks to tweak these guys but that isn't going to happen. Oh and by the way... have you looked at some of Florida's schedule this year...24 pts on a pathetic Miami team, 31 on an even worse Tennessee team and lost to A&M and LSU we beat a combined 107-41?? We reverted back to the Ole Miss game plain and simple and I firmly believe no game plan was in place from a D standpoint in this game... knowing who was going to be the opponent for probably a month.

Agree. But even if our plan was to force a few 3 and outs, mission wasn’t accomplished. We forced zero. They did have one 4 play drive and punt. And 2 TD drives of 4 plays or less. I am curious when the last season was that we had 2 games with no 3 and outs during the season (Ole Miss and UF). Different game these days but still a feat to avoid those of a Bama D every possession.

The fact Bama only had one turnover (if you call the stolen pass from 87) just might be the reason we didn't lose.
And we could run the ball... they couldn’t.

The Defense played against a similar threat we present every week. A very talented QB, a spectacular TE (ours would be a spectacular RB) and a spectacular WR. I have no worries with the D’s play. It came down to a few plays on 3rd and long that they made. Get those 2 or 3 stops and it’s a completely different score.

Actually, to be honest... I was surprised at how well UF’s defense played. Gives me a lot of additional confidence that this O will find a way to win any type of game.

Here's the difference between Clemson and Florida. Trask and Lawrence are both excellent QBs, and they have excellent WRs to throw to. The one thing Lawrence has that Trask does not is an elite RB.

While they do have a much better ground game, overall their OL isn't as good as UF's and their receivers/TE are nowhere near the level of mismatches that UF had last night.

Looking like you need DBs built like Billingsly with near Waddle speed to start shutting down these offenses.

People are acting like Bama is a scrub team. Bama is a great team. Could ND or Clemson beat them? Sure, UF could have also. I said that before the game when no one was giving them any credit. I truly want our D to be better and they will need to be in the CFP or we will fall short.

With all of that said this offense has been the best I have ever seen at Bama and the other teams also have to stop them. That is why the wildcard will be the impact of Dickerson.

The D doesn’t need major anything. UF has probably the second best offense in the country (behind UA’s). There were mistakes, but to have the ā€œsky is fallingā€ attitude is not logical.

Prior to tonight the defense was playing great and everybody was singing their praises, now after one game it needs completely overhauled? Makes no sense
They played great against largely inferior opposition. Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State. Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas are nowhere near what florida and Clemson are on offense.

It just got shown yer again the defense cannot play well against high powered offenses. Was a problem last year and still is this year.

Clemson will hang 40+ on Golding's bunch , so better hope the offense can hang 50 on clemson like they did Florida. I thought the defense has truly improved, but it was more a product of inferior opponents. They still cant cover shit downfield against a competent QB, and for some reason ain't going to pressure the QB as much as they should.

This defense if it's going to be the same as it was last night-- will not be close to good enough to win a national title.

We shall see if nick is happy with DC after this year.... no way he would make any changes this late @Cars2234 ....
I was surprised the DC was retained after lastyear...and ST coach
But i trust NS....
Golding needs to go, dude is awful. Let him go coach a community college intramural squad
