🏈 Dear Stanford, Be Careful What You Wish For

As the bowl season closes to an end, I can't help but be annoyed by all the college football analyst, Stanford players, fans and talking heads mentioning how Christian McCaffrey's Rose Bowl performance proves he should have won the Heisman Trophy this year. While I can take nothing away from the young man and all that he has accomplished, the games his team lost this year may point to a different reason for his success. While the talking heads are quick to compare McCaffrey and Henry's numbers on the year, they fail to acknowledge that Henry played far tougher defenses in the SEC WEST and was asked to do far less for a BAMA team that had other options. Derrick Henry was not asked to lead BAMA in receiving, that honor went to Calvin Ridley with over 1,000 yards receiving. Derrick Henry was not asked to return kicks, that honor went to several players most notably Cyrus Jones who was near the top in the nation. While its commendable McCaffrey averaged 46 receiving yards, 144 yards rushing yards and 80 return yards per game, it was clear he was the only viable option on a team in a defensively weak conference. A PAC-12 conference that allowed an average of 27.75 points per game during bowl season to the likes of Miami, Nebraska, New Mexico, BYU, Southern Miss and Air Force to name a few.

Next, lets look at Stanford's loses on the year. They lost to a Northwestern team that just got beat by Tennessee 45-6 and an Oregon team that lost to Michigan State, a team that BAMA beat 38-0. A closer look will show that they barely got by a Notre Dame team that just got destroyed by Ohio State. While some would point victories at USC(w) and UCLA as quality wins, might I remind them that USC just lost to the same Wisconsin team BAMA annihilated and an UCLA team that just lost to a 6 win Nebraska team.

So, while Stanford may have chanted "We Want BAMA" as they exited the Rose Bowl after beating an overrated Iowa team, they should be careful of their wants. I seriously doubt they would last against this BAMA team. I fear that BAMA's kryptonite defense would make their sole superman look like a beaten and bruised Clark Kent. Just ask Leonard Fournette.

There was some guy behind him to the left that kept interrupting the interview with remarks about 'Heisman, better than Henry, so forth and so on. It made me turn the channel. Kudos to Christian though. He does seem to be some kind of 'Iron Man' to withstand all of the punishment he takes during each game. I fear this will wind up hurting him in the long run. Maybe even in the short run. He'll have a great opportunity next year for the Heisman. Of course, he'll have to contend with Bo and the kid from Clemson, among others.

Believe Stanford loses 4 from the offensive line. He's gonna be fun to watch next year, too bad we didn't get a chance to play Stanford to witness how good he was against Alabama.

It's real simple for McCaffrey to have a better chance to win the Heisman this year: don't lose twice in the regular season. Screw these whining morons in the national media. They are all simply just tired of watching the Alabama dynasty continue to roll along, and instead of just saying it(Cowherd excluded here), they try to come up with justifications as to why Alabama is overrated, weak schedule, why Derrick Henry isn't the best player blah blah blah. It's pathetic to listen to and even more annoying than pathetic. If they'd all just nut up and say, "I'm tired of Alabama being good" like Cowherd has I can at least respect that.

Too many people take the actions/comments of people on TV too seriously. The "We want Bama" chant has become a reaction and symbol of teams who have performed well. They know (99% of the time) that they won't be playing Alabama anytime soon. Isn't it interesting that teams/fans aren't chanting "We want Clemson" if they're the #1 team?

If Henry didn't win the Heisman, many Bama fans would continuously be making comparisons of why he should have. It's human nature. McCaffrey had a good year, but not good enough. It isn't based on a vote of two people. Henry carried the vote across most of the U.S. Get over it.

Both great players. Watson IMO was just as deserving as the two others. I honestly couldn't have argued if any of the 3 won it.

To see their perspective a bit more clearly, their butthurt resonates because it is the 4th time in 7 years they have had the runner up. With 2009 being one of, if not, the closest votes in Heisman history, which, oh by the way, was to another Bama RB.

It's another worthy candidate, another close loss to a Bama RB (a position, right or wrong, that has a bad perception in the NFL for lots of fans outside the south), and a bit of "always the bridesmaid and never the bride" mentality fueling their emotions.

Let them talk. People are always going to bitch, hate, and stir the pot no matter the situation, it doesn't change the result or diminish HTWDH's season. I'm sure he'd mail the thing to McCaffery if it meant another Bama NC title.

Agreed. But NFL perceptions mean nothing in Heisman consideration. I'm sure the level of competition had a big contribution on voters. Stanford is frequently at the top of its conference. But, so is Southern Miss.

Reynolds won either through a manipulation of the vote or a dedicated/determined midshipman effort.

Henry didn't have the numbers simply because Michigan State game planned to do all they can to stop him & Kiffin called plays with the RPO almost all the time.

Secondly, McCaferty didn't have another game to play after this. Something tells me Mr. Henry will have something to contribute on the 11th.
