🏈 DB play vs. GaSt

Sylve got beat on a jump ball and Jackson had one play where he messed up on 3rd down and played too deep. Jackson didn't play enough to really grade him tho. I'm more frustrated with John Fulton than anyone. At this point he should be one of our top DBs and hes just not cutting it.

On what criteria are you basing how one player performed better than the other?

Were there instances where they were covering the same guy, in the same pattern, and had the same support on the field?

Jackson seems to be progressing faster than Sylve, and seems a little more agressive. Sylve is normally in the discussion as the fastest player on the team, but he's not seeing the field for some reason. I trust the coaches will continue to develop them both. They both figure into the second half of the season, and next year.

He covers tighter and has great leaping ability. Twice he high pointed the ball against a good receiver...one breakup and one near interception. Eddie Jackson is developing but he plays way off the receivers and gives up a lot of passes.

Sylve is not only fast enough to stay with the LSU receivers, he finds the ball and leaps like a gazelle.

But I don't think he is physical enough to go up against Odelle Beckem and Landry. You can have all the speed and the vertical in the world, but if you don't know the assignments and can't jam receivers at the LOS, then you're usually not going to be successful. I think Sylve will turn out to be a fine CB in the future, but at this point, Jackson has proved the coaching staff he is worthy of starting.

If you're going to use a gazelle to refer to Sylve's leaping ability, what comparison do you make with Jackson considering his vertical is a little under 4" higher than Sylve's? (30" measured versus 33 ½")

FWIW, both guys have been timed around the 4.4 mark in the 40. Jackson mentioned being clocked at 4.38 in his fastest time and I recall BS being timed a little under 4.5 the last report I read. Now, in my eyes, that doesn't mean a lot considering it's more about closing speed than anything.

Bottom line, both kids are fast.

Still, I don't see much we can use to compare one to another considering the question I posted earlier...

i'm just saying there will be a lot of huffing and puffing by our safeties trying to fill coverage against lsu. because of how we match up, i think LSU is going to be a tough team for us this year. they are well balanced and can stretch us both ways.

Hard to argue with Christion Jones being the punt returner, but Sylve CAN fly and has moves... I'm just saying I'd like to see him get some mop up duty returns....
