| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

Cuomo needs to stop pointing fingers and get NY under control.

Ideologies at play here. Individual responsibility versus expecting the government to be responsible for you. This crisis is revealing an undercurrent of the latter is alive and well in America.

When did the government get in the ventilator business? When did it become the US governments job to provide ventilators to hospitals and cities? That’s what I keep wondering. Did the US government demand companies stop production of these, or incentivize them to stop? The US is free enterprise. I find it tough to blame the government for a lack of ventilators. Cuomo needs to stop pointing fingers and get NY under control. It’s not Trump’s fault that the thing is going nuts there. And not Trump’s fault hospitals are short on ventilators. I don’t care which side of the isle you’re own. Is it “Life, Liberty, and the expectation of a ventilator”?

I don't disagree with a lot of that.

The question is whether those who feel this way will "keep the same energy" when it comes to the companies who will get bailed out? Just something to think about....

Understanding why the stimulus package is being used and one not liking the idea of corporate bailouts can coexist.

The analogy doesn't fit the gravity of this story, so pardon its use ...

Do you remember when we saw the Federal Government launched its tax credit program for wind energy credits? There were a few of these companies that received both grants and loans who ended up going bankrupt. In the best Oprah impression, "you get some money!" "You get some money." In the end, government agencies determined who received the funds and who didn't, right?

I still don't like the bailouts. To me, it's the government deciding which corporations are going win and which ones are going to lose. On top of that, they're giving money to their chosen winners to ensure they...well, win.

This notion the government is going to decide, in terms of businesses, who "lives and who dies" ... them, picking their winners? It just doesn't sit right with me.

Hate bailouts and understand them at the same time. Yes we have to help people, but if companies shutter or have to lay off large sections of their employees then the impacts of this linger for years. As long as things are done properly (hint, they won't be) then a bailout is acceptable as part of the lesser evil.

Sad to see things like this happen at small businesses.

NYC should have shutdown public transportation...

I dont hate "bailouts." I hate that so many people that absolutely have no issue about them also rail on welfare, food stamps, etc. and were absolutely SICKENED by the thought of giving out stimulus checks to everyday citizens (and hilariously I see these same people posting happily about getting them). What I dislike about bailouts is how often you see things like companies getting large sums of gifts or no interest loans that then take that money and give their executives gigantic bonuses or doing stock buybacks. It just seems like a big scam. Now, with this particular situation it seems like everyone is hurting right now. Even the places that are still open are hurting. I just find it hard to have sympathy for companies that made billions of profits last year compared to those small businesses that were already scraping to get by.

Very well said, @TerryP. RTR!

UAB's Dr. Michael Saag giving a presentation to the Birmingham Rotory Club on March 25, 2020. His interview is roughly 35 mins long, followed by a Q&A session.

Just sitting here on my porch not able to work because I had to take a leave from work so I can try to not catch the virus because I (along with my wife ) am my parents only care givers and neither can afford to catch it .......

Anywho , as I sit here and occasionally here a car ride down the road from a distance and thought to myself man this ain’t to bad , enjoy coffee on the porch with my wife , do a few things around the house , see the grand kids a little more which really fills my heart with happiness and love , I drifted off and wondered : what if coach Saban was doing the same thing ( but he was problematic hearing boats ) .....

I guess I’m just wondering if this forced quasi retirement might open his eyes to , dare I say the finer things in life , especially the grand kids ...

Y’all stay safe ..... Looking forward to any insight or stance on it .

P.S. just for the record , I hope not .
