They just announced the Crimson Caravan schedule and Coach Saban is coming to Andalusia so I'm seriously thinking about going. Can anyone that knows let me know what goes down at these things. I've heard of it before but never heard exactly what it is other than Coach Saban speaks.
I went to the one in Orlando last year. Eli Gold was there and MC'd the event. Multiple coaches and professors from the university talk about what is going on at the University as a whole. When the group first arrived there was a chance for the children to do a meet and greet and photo with Coach Saban while the other university officials were speaking to the adults. Various vendors are setup with Alabama merchandise. Coach Saban spoke about his purpose of not only developing football players but taking the steps to prepare young adults for the rest of their lives. At the end he takes questions and answers from the audience. Everything once he starts speaking is off the record and reporters are not allowed in the event so the he is a little more candid than you will normally see him but if you ask a stupid question or repeat a question expect some of the same reactions as his press conferences. In the end it is a way for the University to reach out to its alumni and show what it is doing well and asking for continued financial support. I enjoyed the event and it is always special be able to be in the same room as someone who has had such an impact and hear first hand what motivates and drives them.
I've attended the ones held in Huntsville and have enjoyed them. They have followed the same format as Plakemper described above. One year Coach Hudson, women bb, told how CNS helped him recruit some of his players. There is always a sell out crowd in Huntsville and I imagine everywhere else as well. Seating is first come first served. The only ones who have an opportunity to have a photo op with CNS are the ones who make a donation to the Nick's kids charity.
