šŸ“” Comcast is apparently dropping the B1G Network

Iowa & Nebraska left out in the cold...
The B1G's footprint, eh?

The shot at Larry Scott because of the PAC Network's model was funny. We've talked about it being so different than how the SECN was set-up and we're seeing one model fail while the other continues on.

Now, the B1G is seeing its market shrink. (At least they've got Indiana in there considering where their championship games are played.) There's better options watching this network versus the PAC's. As long as you get into watching a few other sports like men's wrestling, etc.

What dawns on me is there's one staple that likely has A LOT to do with the SECN's continuing success--their afternoon show.

I believe that too. Finebaum creates so much controversy and interest in that silly call in thing. The one aspect I wish stood alone would be his interviews as well as his immediate connection to ESPN content whenever he likes. Fitzpatrick did a nice interview yesterday on his show. You see guys like Marcus, Booger, Greg that are all over other ESPN formats with specific shows on the SEC Network.

For some reason, I get the Pac 12 network on my TV subscription, but there is nothing there that would grab the national attention of the audience for the most part. Unless you are into some of their games and frankly, there's just too much content elsewhere for me to bother with it.

You would think with the SEC prototype out there it wouldn't be that hard to duplicate the SEC's success and find some bipolar callers and someone who likes to troll the audience.

It does, to a degree. The segment with Fitz yesterday is available on the podcast--35 minute segment he has there so you might have to FFW through someone. I plan on listening to it as soon as the sun comes up (garden work.)

I have a friend who is a Penn State fan. It's a bit of a coincidence we had the conversation about the BTN Wednesday afternoon and all of this hit yesterday. She's watches it for a few things that at B1G exclusive. I believe she's with AT&T so she may still have the access.

Who's going to duplicate Paul? There's the issue. "Paawwlll" was a thing before the SECN launched.

The ACCN is just around the corner.

I would be SHOCKED if they had more than 10,000 people outside of Big 10 markets that have even tuned into that network a single time. I've literally never watched and couldn't tell you what channel it's on.

"Pawwwllll" was a thing in the south but not very known nationally (outside of the tree death incident). ESPN was smart enough to bring him on when they launched the SEC Network and then he went all across the platform on various shows, Sportscenter included. Im sure there is a controversial troll figure out there in Big 10 land or Pac 12 land or wherever else that those networks could put on and would gain some interest but those parts of the country also aren't nearly as rabid about college football, either. Even if Paul didn't start drawing interest nationally he still could probably be considered a success with the ratings just out of the south. Half the people in New York and California don't give a crap about college sports in general.
