1. Miss State
2. Florida State
3. Auburn
4. Ole Miss
5. Oregon
6. Alabama

Can't help but think there is some anti-Alabama prejudice here. Hopefully will make our players mad. Might be good in the end.

There will be those who are going off about SEC bias...

Just remember, future football games will change this landscape - this weekend will be the first change when Auburn and Ole Miss play each other. In a way, its a no lose situation for them.

Oregon did lose to an unranked Arizona...don't think they are better than Alabama by any stretch...but it will work itself out in the end.

The Oregon obsession Is what bewilders me. They lose at home to an unranked team. And all anyone wants to talk about is how they had a couple of O-linemen hurt that are now playing. So what? Injuries are part of the game. ESPN continues to make a case for their loss to have an asterisk beside it.

I'm good with this list also. Gives our team an incentive to stay sharp. Cracks me up that the whole college football playoff system was born of anti-SEC (and specifically anti-Alabama) sentiment, yet the first selection committee vote has 3 SEC teams in the top 4.

I would rather be underrated, earn our way in, and prove our worth. Makes the guys fight that much harder.

Kinda funny that the Mississippi teams would face each other in the semis. Yikes!

These polls are really pointless .. Can't we just release one, at the end of the year, to announce the Final Four?? Why now? Aren't the AP and Coaches polls enough?

I have no problem with our position. We win out and we are without a doubt put us in the playoff. Wins would include two of the top 3 should the Barn prevail this weekend and a win against [HASHTAG]#19[/HASHTAG] LSwho in our final four games. Add a win versus a Top 11 UGA in Atlanta and it is sealed. Win out with a Barn loss this weekend and we sit 11-1 and still go should Ole Miss win the Egg Bowl.
This poll is way too early with a TON of football to play.

So much for SEC backlash. Three of the top four slots in the College Football Playoff's initial top 25 rankings are occupied by SEC teams Mississippi State, Auburn and Ole Miss.

"We don't analyze it by conference," selection committee chairman Jeff Long said after the poll was released. "We look at those teams and evaluate the teams they've played and the success they had or the failures they had."

Read "the teams they've played" as a reference to strength of schedule, a factor which clearly played into the SEC's favor with four teams in the top 6. Alabama placed just outside the top four at No. 6.

But ignoring conference affiliations is easier done now than in December. Two of those three teams, No. 3 Auburn and No. 4 Ole Miss, will play each other this week and the Rebels play No. 1 Mississippi State at the end of the year. It's premature to think that the results of a set of rankings in October will tell us much about the final tally when four teams have to be pulled from the rest for the playoff.

Biggest surprise:
Ole Miss slid from third to seventh in the Associated Press poll after a lackluster 10-7 loss at LSU. But while that loss may have been fresh in the minds of AP voters, the 12 members of the selection committee thought back to the Rebels' 23-17 victory over Alabama earlier this month and gave them the fourth slot.

"As you would expect, there's a lot of discussion about head to head, but you have to remember that head-to-head is only one of the criteria we're using," Long said.

Two other teams were ranked ahead of other teams that beat them and had equal records: Oregon was No. 5 while Arizona was No. 12, and TCU was No. 7 while Baylor was No. 13.

Biggest snub: Notre Dame surely never thought its schedule would have been an issue before the season began, but the 6-1 Irish's best win is over 5-3 Stanford. Although their only loss was a 4-point defeat at Florida State, the relative lack of quality wins caused the Irish, ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press poll, to slide to No. 10.

Easiest path to the top: After winning its showdown Notre Dame, Florida State faces only one team ranked in the current top 25 -- 6-2 Louisville, which barely slid in at No. 25. The other four opponents left on the Seminoles' schedule have a combined record of 17-13.

Key games this week: That Florida State-at-Louisville matchup presents the first potential rankings-buster on Thursday night. The Seminoles have had a week and a half to prepare, but have another off-field distraction in Karlos Williams' domestic assault investigation and the Cardinals have the nation's top-ranked defense.

Other key games have Mississippi State at home against Arkansas, TCU traveling to West Virginia, Arizona at UCLA and Arizona State at home against Utah.

But the biggest one, of course, is in Oxford, where No. 4 Ole Miss tangles with No. 3 Auburn in what may be an elimination game in the SEC West, guaranteeing that next week's top 4 will have at least one new member.

Yea, not sure this was the best ranking to have Oregon ahead of Alabama but perhaps they are diving into the future and crowning Oregon conference champions and adding that to their position. Also I hate to say this, but I really hope the Barn takes it to Ole Miss this Saturday so that we have our destiny in our hands again.

Oregon will move into Top 4 with a win over Stanford. Not much hope for a Stanford win this year.

TCU will move to 5th with a win over WVU. Bama should remain at 6th.

SEC down to two teams in Top 4 next week. Will be down to one at the end.

I have to disagree with Oregon moving up with a win over a 3 loss Stanford team (5-4 following the loss). TCU won't leap frog Bama just for a win over what would be a 6-3 West Virginia. Assuming F$U escapes Thursday night, which I'm not so sure they will, here is what next week may very well look like. Again, this is way to early but for arguments sake.
1. Miss State beats Arky.
2. F$U should they win. Think Louisville and Petrino spring the upset. Barn or Ole Piss slides here with a Criminole loss.
3. Barn or Ole Piss stay or move here should F$U survive Louisville. Bama moves up while idle. Committee looks at that Ole Miss loss and realizes that we were playing down THREE starters and is unimpressed that Oregon slips by Stanford. I think that Shaw has Oregon's number though.
4. Oregon with a win over Stanford. TCU should Shaw and Stanford bury Mariota.
5. TCU moves here should they survive the couch burners. Michigan State moves here should the Mountaineers prevail. DAMN! That win over WVU is looking better and better isn't it?
This time next week, we will be looking at the poll and scratch our heads as to how this committee came to their decision once again.
