When you say, our Defense isn't up to usual standards... you know the most points we've given up all year is to Oklahoma @ 35 (#1 offense in the country averaging 50 points per game) and are averaging just 16 points per game (including the post season to date)? Let's also remember that in the main part of the season, a good handful of those points given up where by our 2nd and/or 3rd string Defense playing against the other teams #1s... Now, I'm not saying our Defense is as dominant as in season past, but let's be honest here... it's only slightly a tick off if that.
As for your other points:
1. TL I am sure is a great player and may be the right guy at the right time for Clemson to win. You have plenty of talent around him to support him and it's just one game you have to win. They key will be your running game, if you can get it going with your talented backs. If we can control the Line with 4 guys, it's going to be tough for TL to get to the WR with 2 safeties. Not impossible, but tough for a FR.
2. I would agree, you can't start slow... the issue will be how to really adjust to our pass rush. It will somewhat depend on injuries on our side, but again you'll be helped out if you establish the running game.
3. Simmons (#11)... maybe a factor in Run support... but Tua isn't going to need to be "spied". Really, you need pressure on Tua without blitzing. If Simmons get's lost in coverage... Irv Smith may have a field day catching the ball. He's might be one of the best TE you've seen all year in the passing game...
4. DT depth... this could be an issue for sure for Clemson, especially if we can get a lead and have the chance to ground pound the running game. If it's a closer game, I think you'll be able to manage the rotation fine.
5. ETN... He's the guy that worries me the most. I think if you look at our Defense, where we seem to be weaker this year is vs the run. Most teams are playing catch-up, so run stopping hasn't been needed as much. I think you're whole offensive success will be keyed on the running game and how successful it can/will be. If we don't have to bring a safety down into the box, you're going to lose. However, I don't think we can stop ETN consistently without walking a safety down, I hope I'm wrong...
In the end, it's one game... even if Alabama would win 7 or 8 outta 10 games vs Clemson, you have enough talent to win at least 2 or 3 times. This is only one game so it could very well come down to mistakes and turnovers... if you can get us in to punting situations from our side of the field, you'll for sure have good field position as our punter is crap.
Hoping neither team has any serious injures... "let's play ball"!
