This was a weird move. He could've waited til December and got out.
I was going to say, not sure I've seen a Power 5 head coach step down in job at another school, muchless in conference.
Kelly has had his line in the water for a while, no secret there. The UCLA job was pretty much a lame duck situation for him at this point. Personally, I like the guy... and at this point in his career, an OC spot is probably his best fit on either level.

You could say the same about their athletic department as a whole.
People are asking why would he leave? The last fiscal year the UCLA athletic department was just under 30 million in debt. I can't say I would stay.
Wasn't he at one time going to be released/fired?
A head coach is on the hot seat and then, to close out the season, his team beats their biggest rival. Said coach is retained.

I was specifically thinking about Gus. LSU isn't a rival.
