I got a letter email from Charter this morning that told me to unplug the power from my internet modem, wait 30 seconds and plug it back up to DOUBLE my down load and up load speeds.

I did and it did. I went to SPEAKEASY and my d/l was 22 MB (was 10MB) and the u/l was 2MB (was 1MB).

The email was to all customers and it was free. If you know me....you know that I like me some free stuff. I'd almost take a butt whupping if it was free.

Thanks for the info. I tried it and also used speakeasy for the test.

After initially resetting my modem I got unbelievable speeds compared to usual:

My speeds before were:

1.39 MB download
1.02 MB upload

My speeds after resetting the modem are:

7.24 MB download
1.03 MB upload

I took the test again and my speeds now are:

1.8 MB download
1.03 MB upload

So it seems to of helped some. I still hate Charter (both TV and internet) though but I'm limited because of my area.

I hate Charter enough that I grumble along with AT&T for internet at home, and have Direct TV.

I would take Charter in a heartbeat, I just have the local phone company DSL offered to me which is around the same price as most cable plans. They do good to provide 30~40 KBs, and that's non peak hours. Unfortunately they know they have a monopoly in my area as none of the cable companies want to expand as of now :(
