Nearly 30 years after leaving Auburn, Charles Barkley still embraces the rivalry with Alabama.

So much so that he went on TNT’s ā€œInside the NBAā€ on Thursday evening wearing a bloodied bandage around his head. When host Ernie Johnson asked Barkley what happened, Barkley gave the perfect deadpan answer.

ā€œErnie, you’re not gonna believe this,ā€ Barkley said to Johnson. ā€œBeing the Auburn guy that I am, I wanted to be first class. I went down to the University of Alabama to congratulate the Crimson Tide on winning a BCS Championship and I got mugged. I got mugged in Tuscaloosa, Ernie, and my credit cards are missing.ā€

Earlier this week, four Alabama players were arrested and charged with second-degree assault after assaulting two different people and taking one’s computer and the other’s student ID that was later used to by snacks. Two of the Alabama players were charged with fraudulent credit card use.

Kenny Smith called Barkley and ā€œAlabama haterā€ and asked him to ā€œleave them kids alone.ā€

Barkley replied: ā€œOh, it’s my fault they buggin’ people?ā€

Barkley is known for his antics and this stunt was no surprise. There aren’t many opportunities for Auburn fans to pick on Alabama these days, so Barkley has to capitalize on his chances.

i never knew he was a barner

Can tell your age by that comment...guess it could be that you didn't follow basketball years ago. He's been pretty open about being a Barner on TV as well.

He's from Leeds, Alabama and went to Auburn.

Funniest thing I've heard him say in a while, he was talking about one of his daughters, she was saying how heavy he looked on TV, he said, you know camera's make you look bigger than you are, his daughter replied, did you have a bunch of camera's on you...

He kills me.

I think its better for rivalry when you see big stars that are former alumni talk smack about your rival...Really why I enjoy the Ohio State vs Michigan rivalry.

Would love for him in to come to an Alabama vs Auburn game while Reece Davis is the play-by-play analysis. Watch them two go at it
