right click>copy image>paste automatically changes the format to an uploaded picture.
It's not an original thought. I've seen it discussed for years on various platforms. There's a list of reasons it's not done (or have been built, yet.) A lot of it has to do with sort of a blanket statement: all images don't always end with .gif or .jpg So, you'll end up having the server look at every link that's pasted to determine whether or not it is an image.
Some of the minor things that crossed my mind include...sometimes you don't want the image translated (IE: NSFW,) if it did work that way the images would be hosted on other sites but show up here. If that site goes down, or they pull the pic, it's gone. The copy/paste stores the images locally.
With the options (upload, paste the url, paste the picture) I really don't know of a way to make it easier.
