Talent wins championships. To that, no arguments, right? Let's add one thing with an eye on recruiting/player rankings as our 'base.' Research folk over on CBS threw some numbers out recently I've pulled from here ...
BCR - Blue Chip Ratio:
A team has to sign more four and five star players than it does two and three star guys. It's really that simple. There's been a strange anomaly on occasion. Take FSU in '13 as one example. 53% of that national title roster were blue chips. That's the lowest since 2011. Another side note to low percentages? Coming in just above that '13 FSU team is the 2023 Michigan squad: 54%.
In '11 Bama was at 71%. In 2012, 71%. Back to back title years and those two are the lowest in the Tide's BCR history for titles. I'll stand by the statement the 2020 team, offense especially, was the best in my lifetime. 83% of that roster? Four and five star kids coming out of high school: the blue chips. That's the second highest BCR since '11. Ohio State's team last season sported a roster of 90%.
So, how does this little venture down stats fit for this fall and the playoffs/title?
