šŸ“” CFP will remain at 4 through at least 2025 as PAC commissioner calls for inclusivity and balance

Fewer participants and champions in the playoff era but that brings more excitement. Maybe more excitement, but definitely to fewer people, which won't be good for the sport.
If not more ....then what less?
Bowls?...hardly!

Andto fewer? Or are the power teams of present just a cycle...
Late 80s-90s. Would have been Miami, FSU, Tennessee, OSU..USC, Oklahoma...maybe acouple others...

Its a pretty dang exciting game that we get to SEE now...

I loved bama football in the 60s.... listened to a lot of games...saw some...

The fact that money is part of the equation....doesnt really diminish the quality..or the excitement...the CFPs have increased the excitement...

( i hate the portal...the NIL as it is...# of bowls...DP commercials....Allstate commercials...etc
And a lot of other things...too)
You and I typically see things the same way but maybe not so much on this subject. That’s OK. Here’s more detail on why I said what I said. We’re only in the beginning stages of what NIL money will do to the game. I hope you’re right and it doesn’t end up ā€œdiminishing the quality and excitementā€ but I’d be shocked if that turns out to be the case. One of the reasons I love the college game is because every game counts. Once they expand the playoffs to twelve or even eight teams, the every game counts excitement will be diminished. The college game is also headed towards forming four mega conferences that will dramatically impact a lot of secondary rivalries that we Bama fans love. And those mega conferences formed from teams from the power five will break away to form their own college football organization. That organization will look more professionally oriented than amateur.

The transfer portal has already diminished the importance of recruiting. Now, add the NIL money into that equation and it will more resemble free agency … again more like the NFL. On top of everything else, all of the money generated by TV contracts has made it possible for colleges to fire coaches with years left on their contracts in order to ā€œstealā€ a winning coach who was supposedly already at his dream job (see Kelly and Riley). I’d be upset had I been a ND or Oklahoma fan.

Finally, GT F just imagine all of this was happening in the 80’s or late 90’s or early 2000’s when Bama wasn’t winning many games and Saban wasn’t winning a lot of championships. I seriously doubt we’d be saying money wasn’t ruining the game we love. Saban has insulated us from feeling much of the pain all the changes we don’t like would have caused. And that I contend plays a big part inu what allows you to say the quality and excitement hasn’t been diminished.

Oh. I think we are close on all this...
Maybe less on expansion of CFPs...

Thomas Sowell’s one of my favorite economists and his social commentary almost always hits the nail on the head! He’s also such a courageous and principled man of keen intellect. Sadly, he’s either ignored or worse, defamed by those who disagree with his politics. Yet, he never lashes out in kind and he never backs down. He defines class in my opinion.
