Baylor's OOC schedule next year. At what point do they pick up the clue phone ringing loudly...

OOC schedules are determined years in advance. My bet is we will see similar teams for Baylor over the next three years.

Yes, but you can read between the lines on this a bit. They don't want to.

From Big XII media days, Baylor's AD.

ā€œWe’re having some interesting discussions right now,ā€ McCaw said during the second day of the Big 12 spring meetings. ā€œWe’re certainly open to playing a Power 5 team not every year, but a good number of years.ā€

Baylor’s nonconference schedule last season included games against SMU, Northwestern (La.) State and Buffalo. Despite posting three lopsided victories, the lack of an opponent from a Power 5 conference on Baylor’s schedule became a sticking point in deliberations by members of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

....later in the article. They are able to take on higher level of competition? WTF does that mean? (Rice is willing to play them every year)

ā€œWe’re in a different spot than we were when we scheduled the teams last year and this year,ā€ McCaw said. ā€œObviously, as we’ve won back-to-back Big 12 championships and our program’s on the national stage and we’re recruiting at an extremely high level, we’re able to take on a higher level of competition.ā€

How soon Baylor can make that move and which opponent(s) might disappear from future schedules remains to be seen. But McCaw made it clear he is open to adjustments in the near future. Asked about playing a neutral-site game at an out-of-state venue, McCaw said: ā€œWe are having some discussions about that.ā€

Alabama Football Haters Furious About CFB Playoff Rankings

:rolf::rolf:
I wish I read your NSFW part :doh2:But these people need to get a life. I think the only reason Bama is No#4 is Bama is the best of the other , this is without the glasses on. I think if Bama was left out we Bama fans would be OK with it as of right now. I do think Bama could beat TCU,Baylor, at home and away.

Baylor isn't in a good financial situation. It's tough to schedule a home-and-home when you generate revenue 45,000 seats at a time. Much of that money is already going to the OOC schools they are currently playing. A neutral site game can generate revenue, but do they have a fan base that will travel outside of Texas? If they play at Jerry Dome, the local community doesn't get the financial impact that would happen if a Alabama, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, etc comes into town.

Yup, but they aren't playing those games so it's irrelevant what kinda financial impact it would have to Waco, TX. Zero profit after expense is a problem they need to address, seem like getting a big OOC opponent would help that.

No, they did it to create their own weekly regular season Top 4 playoff. They did it 2 or 3 times last year. The one I remember best was them dropping Ole Miss but one spot (from 3 to 4), after losing to LSU, in order to create a 3 vs, 4 match-up that week with Auburn.

Still think it's a waste of time to release these standings this early. But ESPN just can't help themselves. Gives them material for staged debates on all of their broadcasts the next few weeks...

I liked Dabo's comment though last night when he said (paraphrase), "heck Rece, the only reason I joined y'all tonight is because your a good ole Alabama boy and I like you".

One of the values of a neutral site game is how it helps the local economy - much like a bowl game. The city of Atlanta helps to promote the early games because they benefit from the hotel, ticket and restaurant tax revenues. Waco benefits from all Baylor home games the same way. If Baylor fans don't need to stay in hotels for a game in Arlington, TX, the odds of them being invited diminish. The organizers of the neutral site games do it in cooperation of the local community to help generate revenue (remember that these venues need to rely on the local governments for various approvals and law enforcement support). So then it turns to a home-and-home with a Big 5 school. What school wants to schedule Baylor right now? Why do they need to schedule Baylor when they can get a better matchup with better financial terms (neutral site games)? Bottom line is that Baylor is screwed for the near term since they don't have a strong OOC schedule, won't have a strong OOC schedule for several years, and doesn't have a conference championship game to improve the SOS.

This initial CFP ranking should have waited a couple of weeks, right around Thanksgiving to be honest. Some of these higher profile games would have come to pass with only 2 weeks of games remaining to determine the Final 4. Imagine the importance of Rivalry weekend that last weekend in November and then the Conference Championships.
