Cbssports.com's Barrett Sallee set the over/under for all 14 Southeastern Conference teams going into the 2022 football season and he had Texas A&M at 8.5 wins. This is the third highest win total in the league along with Kentucky out of the SEC East and trails only Alabama and Georgia in that regard.

  • Wins: Sam Houston, Appalachian State, Miami, at Mississippi State, Florida, at Auburn, UMass, LSU
  • Losses: vs. Arkansas, at Alabama, at South Carolina, Ole Miss
Analysis: The Aggies are the chic pick to make some noise in the SEC West, and the schedule does lend itself to some success. With that said, it's hard to trust a team with massive quarterback uncertainty and a coach in Jimbo Fisher who has had an extremely difficult time handling games vs. equal or lesser opponents. The Aggies will have several toss-up games that will determine which side of the coin cashes, and this team will be more susceptible to upset losses than upset wins.

In all likelihood, A&M's toss up games are far less uncertain than what they appear and that's because for all of the attention generated by the 2022 recruiting class (ranked as the best in the country and of all time by the 247 Sports Composite), Fisher and the Aggies have put together three previous classes that were ranked in the top ten. Those classes were good enough to help A&M get to the cusp of the College Football Playoff in 2020, beat Alabama last season, and reverse the course of the LSU-A&M series (one in which the Aggies hadn't won a game until Fisher arrived on campus). Not only that, Arkansas and Ole Miss (both marked down as defeats) incurred significant personnel losses from the 2021 campaign when they beat A&M while South Carolina's talent level falls far short of the Aggies.
