Could this be the END of the Verne and Gary Nightmare?!?!?

CBS’s sweet deal with the SEC is coming to an end after the 2022-23 football season.
Several outlets including Fox Sports’ Clay Travis are reporting that chances of an extension to the current $55 million a year deal are slim to none. Last May, CBS restructured their long-term contract with the SEC after the announcement of ESPN’s SEC Network and additional revenue brought in by league newcomers Texas A&M and Mizzou.
ESPN currently owns all rights to SEC games besides the ā€˜Game of the Week’ and the league championship game every December, but CBS pays next to nothing — about $3.5 million — for the primary 3:30 p.m. ET time slot, two flex games and the big one in Atlanta.
CBS pays $40 million — a week — for its Thursday NFL spot, but likely won’t fork out the money needed to maintain its relationship with the SEC in nine years.
The result? A bidding war ensues and CBS will tap out.

Lots of things can happen in the next 9 years. All it would take is a change in leadership at CBS who wants to renew a contract with the SEC or something along those lines.

Seems to me Clay is doing more speculation than anything else.

I for one love Verne and Gary. My favorites FYI. But 9 years for someone at Verne's age and in his physical state (I'm betting he's not vegan and running three miles everyday before yoga) maybe a mute point if time and diet catch up with him.

IMO, some network, maybe not CBS will pick up the SEC game of the week. As others have said, a lot can happen in 9 years. TV programming will probably be so much different by then.

I really like Uncle Vern but do not care to listen to Danielson ramble on and on and on....

If the SEC continues to produce championship-caliber competition on a weekly basis, some major network will pick it up and gladly so.
I don't like it when Bama is on CBS anyway because of the seemingly, at times anti-Alabama Danielson. As for Vern.... well, I could be fine with him if he had a better partner in the booth.
