@TerryP

This means Wiley is ineligible, right?
No, it does not. Pardon the cliche', but the ball is in Auburn's court.

AU will have to declare him ineligible and then go through the reinstatement process. Now, that being said, if Auburn doesn't declare him ineligible and they (NCAA) finds out later on he's received the benefits mentioned today it makes a really bad situation turn into a shit storm.

If what we've read is true (no one knew within the NCAA the investigation was ongoing) I'll bet my mortgage there's a phone call from the NCAA headquarters to Auburn really soon.

Exchange the characters with those from USC and tell me how this is different?

You say, "dying down." It took almost 1200 days for the case to make it to the NCAA Committee on Infractions. As mentioned earlier, they just filed their third appeal to the NCAA. That appeal wasn't heard until the third week of August--literally, a bit over a month ago.

If history is indication, we'll hear more in about five or six weeks.

We'll see what happens. Just has the makings of nothing much happening. Basketball program doesn't seem to be worried.

I did say MAY... but what does it do for Pearl or Auburn to have one of his assistants steering players to financial advisors/business managers.
And IF this money is coming through Adidas to a coach at a school under an Under Armor contract?

There's a bit of a twist I hadn't considered ... does that classify as a breach of contract as well?

Jacobs, who led the search alone and promised to conduct the search for a new basketball coach quickly, has now remade his top sports, landing Gus Malzahn for the football program, stealing Sunny Golloway away from Oklahoma for baseball, hiring two-time national champion Clint Myers for softball and now landing Pearl, a proven coach coming off of a show-cause.

Auburn hires Bruce Pearl as men's basketball coach

I guess I just thought in my head that maybe Auburn has a separate basketball deal or something. Just looked at their jerseys and yep, Under Armour. Damn.

@Birdman37 Even if it's not a breach of contract with UA, this we do know if we assume the FBI is telling the truth about what they have on wiretaps, etc. (yeah, laughed a bit writing that.)

  • Chuck was an employee of AU.
  • He was paid money from a sports agent and gave some of that to two players as a AU rep.
  • He arranged even more payments at later dates.
  • These players played at AU and Person knew what had happened--knew it was a violation of NCAA rules.
  • Violations? Yes.
  • Ethical conduct by a collegiate coach? Hell no!

In terms of AU, this agent angle, Under Armor, Adidas, and all the other details ... they really mean nothing in the end for the AU program. It really doesn't matter why the agent(s) did what they did.

All that matters here is Person paid players, arranged for other payments, and did so willingly. Hell, it's his track record.
