You know the really funny thing, is that every corner of the country has another corner of the country to look down on for some various reason. It's almost comical.

I remember when Franchione was here and we were playing Iowa State in a bowl game. You should have seen the venom on the boards. Talk about being superior in every way fathomable......Iowa State fans were. You want steriotypes, you should have read some of those posts. These guys were unreal. The really funny (but not really) thing is.......have you guys ever been to Iowa? Have you seen what Iowa is? What they have? Who they are? I mean.......seriously. Their claim to fame is corn. They have nothing else.

To hear them tell it, Iowa is some kind of cultural Mecca, far beyond anything we have in the South.

I'm from the North, and all I have to say is, I have family in the swamps and farms of South Jersey who are WAYYY more "hick-y" and "redneck-y" than anyone I ever met in my travels/stays down south and anywhere else in this country!! We always joke how my cousins are a bunch of inbreeds ..

There are stereotypical "Southern" people in all reaches of the country. Frankly I think people outside of the South are just jealous of it. I know I am! I love being born and raised in Philly but I am in love with the vibe, the food, the weather, the culture, everything from the south. Especially the football, people can't ever understand what it's like. Up here, at least in my area, it's about soccer (vomit).

I have to agree that there is a 'type' up here above the Mason Dixon line (and a bit below, in DC and northern VA, and parts of NC). I don't like that type but we don't all fit it! :icon_twisted: I definitely agree that each region always has to hate on another. I guess everyone likes to feel superior to someone, sadly. But as someone from Philly (the most hated on city in this entire country .. sigh), I can relate, to an extent. I just bask in it though, cuz it means someone else has an inferiority complex, especially regarding our passion for our sports teams!! :biggrin_blue:

I hope everyone knows I was kidding when I said this shirt was super classy haha. It's super crappy. Playing on stereotypes is stupid, be creative please!! Kinda reminds me of all the nasty t-shirts that came out after the Penn State scandal ..

Actually I have. I was born there but raised in Bama. Yeah,there is corn as far as the eye can see. In fact, one of my Uncles is a corn farmer.I have been back to Iowa maybe 5 times in my life for family reunions.

That reminds me, I was at the mall today and all the sports shops had Notre Dame BCS crap. NOTHING Alabama. I was so disappointed but not surprised. I just wanted to knock them over and yell ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

One of the odd things I follow year in and year out are merchandise sales—it's just something I find interesting.

From June 2010 to July 2011, Texas ranked #1. (Currently hold that spot for the 7th year in a row) That in itself isn't uncommon but to continue to rank that high is a little surprising considering the struggles they have had on the playing field. (This does cover more than football but other programs there haven't been world beaters either)

Alabama came in at #2 followed by Florida and Auburn.

Notre Dame came in at #11 for that years report. Mizzou and A&M were #18 and #19.

In September of this year the rankings had the same top two but Kentucky had entered the mix at #3 following their NC win in basketball. Notre Dame was in 9th place overall.

Fanatics.com, which is the parent company of the company we use for football ads on the front page, released a report in October that Notre Dame was #2 in purchases behind Bama. Strictly online purchases, mind you.

Oh, the hypocrisy of our presumed intellectual betters. See, I find this stuff interesting, not useless at all! :tennis:

FYI - definitely not sold out, I actually asked the clerks at a few stores (Dick's, Modell's, Sports Authority, JC Penny's) if they had Bama gear in addition to the ND gear and they did not. I was out doing Christmas shopping the past few days and I have been looking for Bama stuff for my parents (I dragged them to my Bama bar in DC for the Tennessee game and they had a BLAST; new converts!). Didn't look like the ND gear was flying off the shelves though.

From a marketing perspective, I have been looking at the specific schools represented in my area lately. Philly is a college basketball town (we have the Big 5), so there's a lot of: Villanova, U. Penn, Temple, St. Joe's, La Salle, etc. Lots of Penn State and Rutgers. A few UNC, WVU, Duke, and Pitt things (probably more basketball love). No Bama to speak of. I asked for Bama gear for Christmas this year so here's hoping Santa treats me right! And here's hoping Clausen gets a big lump of coal in his stocking :biggrin_blue:
