🏈 Cash sought for Cam Newton

The more information that surfaces, the more this seems bogus.

The AP reporting today that Cam's eligibility is not in question.

Auburn has not receive a Letter of Inquiry

Rogers himself finally spoke out today and says he has no idea how his name was brought into this, he had no contact with Auburn during the recruitment of Newton and the allegations are patently false.

Even the sportswriters that broke the stories last night have started to backtrack and soften their stance. Schlabach said on OTL tonight that Cam isn't in jeopardy at Auburn and Auburn is not under the gun. Hell, even Finebaum is on our side. Fiutak wrote an article today that is a complete 180 compared to his stories yesterday. ESPN has been scrolling throughout the afternoon that Rogers had no contact with Auburn--so that means ESPN and Rogers say Rogers didn't call Auburn. All credible sources are still reporting that Auburn is not the focus of this investigation.

A HUGE point that so many here, and even on the AU boards are missing, the investigation is into the dealings of the agent. Period. The NCAA has promised to toughen their stance on the actions of agent and have stated that they will take the complaints more seriously so they can head these issues off before athletes lose their eligibility. No one has taken the time to think that this investigation is to prevent people like this doucher agent from actually hurting someone?

For those that want Cam Newton on the field on 11/26--I applaud you. It takes a stand-up person to want the opposing team at full strength when you play them. For those that are praying he's ineligible, keep licking your chops, I believe you'll find yourself sorely upset shortly after kickoff when Cam leads the offense out onto the field. The team, the staff and the AU Family have rallied around Cam. All this story has done is provide motivation for a other-worldly talented, driven kid now has all the motivation in the world to prove the naysayers wrong. Aside from the talk about him being ineligible, there is now talk about the distraction and how it will take his eye off the prize, so to speak. I pray that by some miracle UF plays just above mediocre enough to get to Atlanta and that we get by Bama in Tuscaloosa. I would not want to be a member of Urban's defense that night.

As much as I have enjoyed arguing this point, I will steer clear of this thread and let you guys have your moment in the sun. Rest assured that with all of the information that has been reported now, Cam Newton is very much a part of this football team and will be eligible and play in every game we have remaining.

Of course! only an idiot would implicate themselvs. If your guilty you deny EVERYTHING. and make them prove it.
Everyone in this from the Newtons, to Auburn, thier boosters, Rogers everyone is going to lie tier asses off.
The only ppl who seem to be willing to tell the truth thus far is Ms. St. & Dan Mullen. To thier credit.
They actually did the right thing by cutting all ties with Newton when the offer was made & reporting it.
Tennesee was willing to pony up till Mullen blew the whistle. Looks like the Barn thought they could get away with one.

But i'm under no delutions. this will get paid off. AU has enough ppl with the cash to buy thier way out
of it like they always do. And i fully expect that is what will happen here.

In spite of all the hullabaloo there is still precious little that is known. John Bond says that Rogers called him in January apparently "shopping" Cam. Bond says that he reported this to the MSU AD of the time. All this went down in December of January. MSU's AD reported this to the SEC office and possibly to the NCAA, as he should have. Cam's dad said he did talk to Rogers when he and CAM visited MSU.

Everything else is speculation and rumor at this point.

For those of you who are leaping to conclusions because Cecil Newton hired a lawyer, let me ask you two questions: If you were charged with a crime and new you were not guilty, would you hire a lawyer? If you were being sued for a lot of money and knew the facts were on your side would you hire a lawyer?

I know I would.

Yep.

Everyone's denying everything which is what you'd expect at this point. Still, this thing doesn't SEEM to have any legs at this point. Lot's of finger pointing going on.

If I were an Auburn fan, the ONLY thing I would be worried about at this point is the fact that the NCAA has known about this since January. Either the NCAA is extremely incompetent (which is true regardless, I suppose) or there is some issue they haven't been able to clear up. Still, I doubt anything comes of it.

some folks lose all ability to reason when it involves a rival team. trying to talk sense to them is.....pointless.

Cam's mother even said their church was poor and had no money. Then explain the money to SUDDENLY renovate the church before being torn down. And it was done the spring right after Cam signed with aub. Auburn fans are explaining everything else to shoot down every other theory. Explain that to me. I'm not saying there's guilt or innocence, just MO. But some things just don't add up. It's like it's almost staring us right in the face.

No offense intended brother, but that's speculation at this point.

I know but it's not MY speculation. That's what I read on espn.com. Like I said, Im not saying anybody's guilty or innocent but something isnt adding up. Everyone is making good points, including Duder. Im taking everything with a grain of salt but, it's ALMOST staring us in the face. Now will someone please pull the curtain from our eyes and reveal the truth? LOL

Given the date on this article it doesn't sound like the church was suddenly renovated.

In Newnan, Cecil Newton's church, which news reports suggested were a possible beneficiary of the alleged payout, sat in disrepair. The Holy Zion Center of Deliverance, located in a heavily commercial area in Newnan, looks like a deserted building. A former car dealership, white curtains are drawn across the front windows, which appear to bear a couple of bullet holes. In fact, the church was dissolved in 2008 by the state after failing to file its annual registration.
"I've never seen anybody over there," said Jeff Scott, manager of a nearby used-car dealership.
According to reports in the Times-Herald newspaper in Newnan, Newton spent the past two years fighting to keep his church building from being condemned and subsequently demolished. The City of Newnan granted Newton at least three extensions to bring the building up to code before it was taken off the city’s condemned list in October.
City records show the church needed to make $50,000 in repairs to keep its building from being torn down.
Council member Rhodes Shell, who represents the district where the church is located, ,said Newton made gradual improvements on the property and updated the city on his progress which is why they kept giving him more time.
“He was well-meaning and sincere about what he was trying to do,” Shell said. “If it had been a real business, we wouldn’t have given him as long as we did.”
Shell said Newton told the council he planned to get the money from his son who was a professional athlete. Shell said the council assumed he was talking about former Jacksonville Jaguars center Cecil Newton, who spent most of the 2009 season on the practice squad before being released from the team in August.
“That’s where his money came from, from what he was telling us,” Shell said. “No one knew Cecil Newton was the father of Cam Newton until less than a month ago.”
Shell said he does not believe Newton was involved in any recruitment scams.
“If he had that kind of money floating around, he would have fixed that church a long time ago,” he said.

Sadly I don't think Alabama beats Auburn with Cam in, so I'm hoping all this smoke with his recruitment leads to fire. I don't care what happens to Auburn. It would suit me just as well for him to have had "agent involvement" with this Rogers dude and the NCAA sit him a couple for that.

If I had a choice of him playing at QB for Auburn or some little used back-up heck yeah I'm going with the back-up. As far as I'm concerned he can come back after our game. That's all.

Source: Newton left Florida after cheating scandal

It's not looking good for the young man.

He first violated Florida’s student honor code by cheating in a class during his freshman year, according to the source.......
...
Newton again violated the university's honor code by putting his name on another student's paper and turning it in. Newton was caught after the instructor asked the real author of the paper why he had not turned in his work.
...
According to the source, after the student said he had turned in a paper, he and the instructor went through all the submissions and discovered that Newton had put his name on the paper in question
...
Newton turned in a second paper to the instructor, but that paper was later found to have been purchased off the Internet, according to FoxSports.com. He was to appear for a hearing in front of Florida's Student Conduct Committee during the spring semester of 2009, but instead transferred to Blinn College.

I don't know if these allegations are true or not, but this isn't going to help the kid get the Heisman. I have felt all along that there was something else to why he left Florida and it simply wasn't because of a lack of playing time or receiving a stolen laptop. This will only get worse before it gets better IMHO.

Other than making him look bad, what negative affect will this have?

I'm not sure, but it's probably not going to help him with the Heisman voters.

When he left Florida to transfer, the issue was apparently still unresolved since the hearing never actually took place. I wonder if the NCAA would still follow up with and investigation into the cheating - especially given the other recent issues he's had to deal with. I would think that, at a minimum, the NCAA would ask Florida officials to turn over any 'evidence' they had.

Let me be frank: This is a young guy who makes very poor decisions.

While that might be obvious to many, a lot of our posters or lurkers who root for the other team in Alabama, don't want to believe that Cam is anything other than a model citizen and Heisman Quarterback. They need to be paying attention to the laundry list of issues that are coming up on this guy. We all need to see that what Auburn has done for 2010 is mortgage their future in order to win now. Whatever pressure or underhanded tactics needed to be exercised in order to do this is irrelevant. Auburn wanted to win THIS YEAR, and didn't care much for the state of the Athletic program's future, or the good name and reputation of Auburn University. That is a fine school, for all the joking around we do here. Absolutely one of the best public schools in the country. But for all the focus and attention that athletic program gets, they seem to want to pass over keeping academic standards high.

I'm all for giving a guy another chance. At Auburn, it seems everything else will be forgiven, and I mean EVERYTHING, in order to win NOW. This guy is a goner after this year anyway. I doubt he stays in school long enough to finish out the academic year. I hope this isn't a foretell of how Gene Chizik will recruit in the future. Auburn needs to only look across the state to see the folly of focusing on winning only. I believe we did some of that throughout the 1990's, and we landed ourselves in plenty of hot water as a result.

Other than making him look bad, what negative affect will this have?

It goes toward credibility. When someone is accusing you of recruiting violations and you are denying it, you are usually viewed as the less credible one once it is known you cheated on your school work three times in the past two years. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
