UPDATE: A source close to Auburn's athletic department with knowledge of the situation told the Opelika-Auburn News that "there are no NCAA allegations against any member of Auburn's coaching staff or anyone associated with Auburn in the recruitment of Cam Newton."
Another recent update was that Mullen and Meyer had spoken at length about the situation. Mullen considered it a dead issue and URBAN MEYER encouraged Bond to go to the NCAA, which seems fine, he also encouraged him to go to the media. Class guy, Urban. Sorry you couldn't convince him to stay. After this, you should probably be glad your team has little to no chance of making it to Atlanta. If you make it and we get by Bama, I feel very, very sorry for your defense.
And Porter, I follow you but there's just nothing of substance to these reports that are indicative of CAM actually doing anything wrong. I can call Alabama and say I represent Ingram and it will take $200k for him to come back next year; it doesn't make it true. I understand the hype--he's the best player on one of the best teams. As a rival fan, I fully expected you guys to eat this up--hell most Auburn fans did the same thing about Ingram and Julio over the last two years. I just truly don't see anything coming of this, at least not relevant to our program or his eligibility. If Cam were in any hot water, that would've already been clearly reported. Chizik wouldn't continue playing Cam if he felt there were any real chance the NCAA would rule him ineligible. If it turns out that Cam had involvement and Auburn knew about it, then of course we should be hit. I just don't see it happening. This information has been known since December, at least by State. Auburn was notified during the summer when they discussed it with their compliance board and the SEC. This seems as much like sour grapes today as it did a week ago when it was brought up in a different thread here. Someone at State is pissed they didn't land him, Meyer is pissed he didn't keep him. Until Information is shown to the contrary, that's where I stand. I'll allow the media their "guilty until proven innocent" reports. It is a shame that this story has caught the legs it currently has. There is nothing to indicate anyone but some jackass former State player has done anything wrong.
