What was Carlos Dunlap thinking?

It is hard to imagine what Carlos Dunlap was thinking.
The immensely talented defensive end for Florida was arrested early Tuesday morning after police found his asleep behind the wheel of his running car.
Police watched the light go through several cycles around 3:30 a.m. before approaching a 2000 Chrysler, registered to his father, also named Carlos Dunlap.
Dunlap, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound NFL prospect who leads the Gators with seven sacks this season, probably will not play against Alabama on Saturday, his father told the Orlando Sentinel Tuesday afternoon.
What does Nick Saban say? Players have freedom of choice, but not freedom from consequences.
This doesnāt look good from any angle. What does Carlos Dunlap tell his parents? His coach? His teammates?
This is nothing short of a betrayal. Four days before an SEC Championship Game that Meyer himself called one of the biggest games heās ever been part of, one of the Gatorsā team leaders gets drunk? Thatās a pretty selfish decision.
Monday, Alabama and Florida provided three players each to participate in the playersā teleconference. As you can imagine, they donāt pick poor players for this role. Alabama was represented by Greg McElroy, Rolando McClain and Javier Arenas. Florida picked Tim Tebow, Joe Haden and Carlos Dunlap.
Dunlap talked about the year of experience being so valuable to the Gators. Hereās a part of what he said Monday:
āOf course, with the year of experience, just being together as a team, you trust one another and like knowing your teammates, like what theyāre going to do in certain situations or like what they know what youāre going to do,ā he said.
āSo if I was like the counter or something and (Brandon) Spikes fit in my gap, just small things like that. Just playing together. Like growing up together, when you play with the same basketball team. They know when youāre going to do certain things. Thereās respect for your teammates.ā
Talk is cheap. Too bad he didnāt show that respect early Tuesday morning.
