🏈 Capital One Bowl.... yes?

You heard anything about the Cotton wanting a UA vs A&M match-up? There seem to be some rumblings...
I do believe Capital one bowl has to take LSU since they will be the number two guys in the SEC with Auburn and Arkansas in BCS bowls. Then the outback and cotton duke it out over 3 and 4. The Cotton gets preference in the West, and Outback in the East. So I see us going to the Cotton if they want us.

You guys keep saying LSU is #2 in the SEC. Isnt South Carolina # 2 since they are the SECCG runner ups if they lose? Also since Arkie beat LSU they have the same record, tie breaker, and the highest ranking. So wouldnt they be 2 or 3 a spot ahead of LSU?

I'm so confused.

Wouldnt it be like this of the bowl eligible teams? Maybe South Carolina drops to 4th and everyone moves up, but I would think Arkie is ahead of LSU.
1. Auburn (if they win SECCG) 9-0
2. South Carolina 5-4
3. Ark 6-2
4. LSU 6-2
5. Alabama 5-3
6. Miss St 4-4
7. Florida 4-4
8. UGA 3-5
9. Tenn 3-5
10. Kentucky 2-6

I like this projection:

January 7, 2011 Arlington, TX
AT&T Cotton Bowl 8:00 pm FOX
Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3, 4, or 5 (West)
Projection: Nebraska vs. Alabama

I would go to see that game. Wow. Two old powerhouses. :td:

Look at the SEC teams as selections (example- LSU selection #3), not as a literal ranking. That will make it less confusing. Forget the actual final season SEC rankings, they mean very little when teams have similar records and bowl committees want certain match-ups.

Alabama has played only once in this bowl. Then, it was the Citrus Bowl and it was during the '94 season. That was also the last time we've played Ohio State if I'm not mistaken. That could factor into the Capital One bowl committee selecting Alabama.

It'll be fine with me, but a trip to Dallas against Texas A&M or Nebraska is what I prefer. If we go to Dallas, I'll likely make the trip. Orlando, not sure.

Now Doe, you don't mean that even with a hint of sarcasm!! I could think of 1 million things I'd rather do than go to a bowl in B'ham!! 1. would be to shove bamboo shoots up under my fingernails!!

Well since A&M accepted its a safe bet that the Cotton Bowl is expecting to get LSU since they are historic rivals and all. I think the Cotton would definitely prefer Alabama but since the Capital One bowl has never had them, since it was called the Citrus anyway, it is starting to look like they will probably take them.

When I was at the Cotton Bowl 2 years back one of their officials, he was in his 80's, talked my ear off about how much they always enjoyed having Alabama.

i'm anxious to see what happens if Nebraska loses...does Cotton keep their agreement in place with A&M and does the Big-XII send Nebraska off with a crap bowl seeing as how they bailed on the BigXII (....thanks to Texas)

The Cotton won't pull that offer to A&M. They will always choose UT or TAMU when given the chance. Had Texas been 8-4 this year they might have gotten the Cotton Bowl invite. And the Big 12 should be big Nebraska fans since they don't keep any of their bowl money from this year. The better bowl they go to the better payout for the other schools and the conference.

They also look at how well the fan base travels and the $$ they will spend. As much as someone so nicely pointed out the Texas HS football base, Florida has a pretty good pool also. I could see a bowl picking a 3 loss Bama team over the 2 loss LSU team. Its all about the Benjamins, not the matchup.

Where are y'all coming up with this... Do you not think that LSU travels as well as Bama does??

But whatever bowl we go to I think will be interesting-- if you're not in the national championship its always fun to see how your team will do against another team they rarely get a chance to play against. (I say "if you're not in the NC" because last year, I was in Pasadena and could tell that no one, including me, cared about the SEC vs. Big 12 "match up" its all about just winning the game, whereas normal bowl games have the aforementioned story lines about interconference matchups and what not) So Roll Tide, I think we can beat anybody we draw!
