I agree with all of the rest of your post but to this statement I say: We have four capable running backs and a QB that can run. That's a lot of carries to split and help prevent the wearing down of one or two individuals.

He's trying to run in the red zone, but on 2 of those 1st three trips, we had procedure calls and/or missed blocks that resulted in negative yardage on 2nd down.

Not much you can do with that except pass on 3rd down.

And if a team is dumb enough to do nothing but run the ball eventually the other team will shut it down, even if it takes putting 10 at the line. Which is exactly why you throw to loosen things up. Thankfully Kiffin is smarter than OP.

the more times you run the ball, the more your chances increase of one of your running backs getting hurt. say one goes down. we have 3 capable backups. one of those go down. we're down to 2. if the qb gets hurt, you're out another capable runner and you get to where you have to throw it more to make up for the loss of the strong running game.

a strong running game is good to wear down a defense, but you can't rely on it too much or it can come back to bite you. the running back is one of the most worn out people there is in sports. they take more hits than just about any other position and in just about any other type of game.

I'm beginning to think nothing like this has been done in my lifetime. Like you, I doubt we ever see this again, at least not in my lifetime. I'm getting old enough now, if it's going to happen again and to this extent, some team and coach better hurry or they'll run out of time. After all, it's going to have to last at least ten years after it starts. Alabama doesn't seem to be ready to slow down any time soon.

This thread made me think of something Gary said in yesterday's CBS broadcast; when Gary asked Lane how we got Jalen to commit / keep his commitment, Lane said Jalen wanted to be in the NFL and he needed to be a pocket passer and Lane said we'd teach him. Even though I can't say I've seen many pure in the pocket passes in the red zone it still makes me wonder Lane's motive. Plus we've got WR's and TE's to keep happy.
Don't get me wrong, I said "Run the damn ball Lane" probably half a dozen times yesterday and like many I'm glad he is our OC. Can't argue with success!

Lane has done a great job with the QB's there is no question and I think he has done well in several games with setting people up for stuff later in the game. He will generally scheme you a touchdown or two during a game which is what you want out of an OC without a doubt. I am glad he came and has stayed here but I won't be hurt if he goes to a head coaching job.

I just get frustrated that he won't just run the damn ball when they can't stop it. We could have put that game out of reach in the first quarter and made me enjoy that game much more but he is stubborn about throwing it around sometimes and unfortunately Jalen just isn't capable at this moment of doing it. Some say that is how you practice it in live game and I get it but let's get a 14 point lead first before you start experimenting. I think we are just exposing our glaring weakness on national TV for LSU and the BOOGS to see.

I think the negative opinions on Kiffin would be put in the basement if we had a QB that was a bit more accurate down field. Ridley has been wide the f*uck open so many times this year and we just miss him deep. I think Kiffin is trying to get that light to go on and get a more consistent down field pass and the best way to do that is to keep trying it. If we only pound the ball left and right, we also wear down out RBs... We need to have BOTH a competent passing game and a Powerful running game. I don't really have many issues with the way Kiffin has been calling games, more so with some of the execution of those passing plays. The one good thing is that Hurts doesn't seem to be "forcing" the deep ball. When he finally get's that touch down, the score board is going to light up even more!

After half time, that changed due to CNS clearly wanting to run more. When you have an established Junior QB throwing, sure & we are making the runs, keep it up.

-Jalen is a TF. He needs as many reps as he can throwing because I truly think if we have to face a Lamar Jackson QB, Hurts will need to be able to make those long balls. As much as I love our defense, the Lamar Jackson type is the one QB that truly be problematic.
