The University of Alabama Board of Trustees approved the creation of a new research center focused on developing technologies for sports performance enhancement and injury reduction.
The Integrative Center for Athletic and Sport Technology, or I-CAST, will bring 22 researchers together from several UA departments, including the College of Engineering, College of Education and College of Human Environmental Sciences, along with trainers and staff from UA Athletics and UA Adapted Athletics.
āI am very gratified to see this initiative take place, primarily because of the cooperative spirit of several departments across the spectrum of our campus life working together to benefit student-athletes,ā UA Athletic Director Bill Battle said in a press release. āNot only will this technology and academic research improve performance and reduce the chances of injury for our student athletes, it also provides a tremendous example of our ongoing efforts to give our student athletes the best care possible during their time here.ā
School officials expect the center to reach full operational capacity within the next three years. Researchers are hoping to develop more technologies like the SidelinER, which we reported on earlier this month.
